Recent studies have detected cadmium—a toxic heavy metal linked to kidney, lung, and cancer risks—in every lipstick tested across multiple brands.

Researchers found that even low, repeated exposure to cadmium through cosmetic use can lead to its accumulation in body tissues over time. Once absorbed, it is difficult to eliminate and can interfere with hormonal regulation, enzyme function, and cellular repair. This issue extends beyond lip products, as similar metals such as lead, arsenic, and chromium have also been identified in a range of beauty and personal care items.
