Cases of Norovirus, 🤢often called “winter vomiting disease”, are rising quickly across the U.S. this season. The virus is hitting earlier than usual, with schools, households, and even cruise ships reporting sudden outbreaks.

Norovirus is extremely contagious. It only takes a small amount of viral particles to infect someone, which is why it spreads so quickly in crowded places like schools, holiday gatherings, airports, and nursing homes. It causes abrupt symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, and nausea. Most people recover in a couple of days, but dehydration can be serious, especially for kids and older adults.

How to Protect Your Family -
There’s no antiviral medication for Norovirus, so prevention and early care are key.

Wash hands with soap and water — hand sanitizer doesn’t work well against Norovirus.

Disinfect surfaces frequently, especially in kitchens and bathrooms.

If someone gets sick, keep them home for at least 48 hours after symptoms stop to prevent spread.

Stay hydrated, use electrolytes, drink plenty of water and monitor for signs of dehydration. Intake Vitamin C, Zinc and Elderberry!

Updated information for our fellow equine owners and Chiropractic equine patients. We are praying for everyone!

🚨 𝐄𝐇𝐕 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 – 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐝 🚨

Horses in Oklahoma have tested positive for Equine Herpesvirus (EHV), a highly contagious viral disease. It spreads easily through nasal discharge, shared equipment, trailers, stalls, and even human contact. Horses can carry the virus before showing symptoms, so strict quarantine is essential.

𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬:
🐴 Respiratory: cough, clear nasal discharge, fever
🐴 Neurologic (EHM): hind-limb weakness, incoordination, urine dribbling, tail weakness, sudden inability to stand
🐴 Reproductive: late-term abortion in mares

𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬:
✅ Call your vet immediately
✅ Quarantine symptomatic or exposed horses
✅ Monitor all horses’ temps twice daily (Normal = 99–101.5°F)
✅ Follow strict biosecurity measures

𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐬 – 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬:
🏥 Place signage on the door asking horse owners to inform your team if they have attended any of the affected events. If they have, please instruct them to wait outside so appropriate precautions can be taken.
🏥Take a detailed history of potential exposure and travel
🏥 Examine and take the patient’s temperature 𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 entering the clinic
🏥 Antiviral medications can be given prophylactically to exposed horses to reduce the risk of developing EHM. For more information regarding this treatment, please reach out to our equine internal medicine team.
