I can’t even begin to describe how disheartening this is, not only for me personally but for my many friends that are licensed cosmetologists. Massage therapy has only been licensed in Oklahoma for about 9 years. It is just barely being recognized as a medically beneficial therapy and not just a fluffy spa service, or worse. I don’t want to think about what the future of my industry will look like if there is no accountability for those who give massage therapy a bad name.
All I can say is if this ends with the board being dissolved, I urge all of you to do your research when choosing who you allow to perform any of these services for you. Not just massage, but hair and nails also. Think about the amount of sanitation that will go by the wayside at your favorite pedicure spot if no one hold them accountable. How easy will it be for someone with no training to absolutely ruin your hair because they have zero knowledge on the chemistry of hair dye or bleach. This decision can only end poorly.
