This is where most startup dentists lose money before they ever open. Not in dentistry. In the build-out. Leases, construction timelines, and contractors can quietly bleed you if you don’t structure the deal before you sign anything.

The mistake I see too often is treating build-out like a box to check instead of a strategy to protect your time and capital. Not every contractor understands dental. Not every project manager has the capacity to prioritize your project. And saving a little upfront can cost you months later. This phase sets the tone for everything that follows.

If you’re planning or building and want guidance before decisions get expensive, this is exactly what we work through inside L’Academy 🔗 Link in bio.

What’s on your must-have list when building out your office?

02/06/2026

Moving every year since you were 17 isn’t normal? 😂 I thought I was playing real life Monopoly.

Most dentists think they have a good team.
Very few have the right people in the right seats.

Be honest… Do you even have an org chart?

If you’re in startup mode, this matters more than anything else.
Startup hires aren’t here to “just do their job.”

They’re building systems, workflows, and standards from zero.
That takes: experience, ownership, decision-making power, crystal-clear expectations.

I see so many foundations built wrong? They’re expensive (& painful) to undo.

If you want guidance on building out your bench, this is exactly what we work through inside Vision-to-Practice ✨

Martin Luther King Jr. said it best: “What does it profit a man to afford a Cadillac if he cannot afford self-respect?”

He wasn’t talking about money.
He was talking about integrity.
Dignity.
Values.
How you treat yourself and others.
Whether your life actually aligns with what you believe.

Dr. King reminded us that a society obsessed with things but disconnected from people is spiritually bankrupt. If your wealth costs you your character, your peace, or your humanity -it’s not profit. It’s loss.

On MLK Day, I’m reminded that a life built with integrity, service, and self-respect is the richest one there is.

Your rich life is yours.

Location isn’t just visibility, it’s visibility to the right people. It determines who finds you, what they value, and how easily your practice can grow. The right location attracts aligned patients and supports the kind of dentistry you actually want to do. The wrong one quietly makes everything harder.

That’s why choosing was intentional.

It offered the balance I was looking for: a growing area with real opportunity, a strong sense of community, and room to build something sustainable. I could design a practice that aligned with my lifestyle, my values, and the level of care I wanted to deliver and serve patients who value relationships and quality.

Choose your location wisely bc it shapes your quality of life.

From the girl who checked off almost everything on her 2025 vision board…

I learned that hitting goals doesn’t mean much if you bypass the inner work required to hold what you built.

On paper, 2025 looked successful. In real life, it asked more of me than any list could capture. It asked for patience. Discernment. Humility.

Everyone loves the highlight numbers BUT the real game is: timing, cash flow, and not letting the bank rush you into bad decisions. Startup costs aren’t just “build it and open.” They’re unpredictable, and full of decisions that seriously affect your stress level later. Knowing when to use debt, when to use cash, and when to slow yourself down is part of being a good clinician and a good owner. BC yes- Ownership isn’t just dentistry, it’s strategy. It’s patience. It’s entrepreneurship, and that often looks like spreadsheets. And sometimes it looks like building cabinets with your friends because 2020 said figure it out.. 😅 If you’re dreaming about ownership (or already in it), I’m sharing what I wish someone had broken down for me earlier.. the real decisions behind the scenes, not just the glossy ones.

Drop your questions for the next Ask Dr. Le episode bc there’s a lot more coming.

Meet Dr. Le

With the skills of a dentist and the style of an artist, Dr. Le was drawn to dentistry by her desire to build relationships, serve the community, and inspire others to lead healthy lives. Her passion lies in helping patients achieve their goals -big or small -in and out of the dental chair. Dr. Le deeply values positive patient interaction and thrives when providing education, knowledge, and preventive care that keeps everyone looking and feeling their best.

Born in Hawaii and raised in Jacksonville, FL, Dr. Le is a graduate of the University of North Florida and earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Nova Southeastern University (2017). It was during her schooling, as she observed multiple health fields and shadowed several dentists, that she realized patient relationships would be at the heart of her practice. As a practitioner with a growth mindset, Dr. Le furthered her work in the dental field in 2018 by joining the American Academy of Facial Aesthetics (AAFE) to further study facial anatomy and learn safe injectable techniques. Dr. Le excelled so highly in this venture that she now travels nationwide to train other dentists, as well as doctors, nurses and physicians assistants. She calls injectables the “sweet spot” of her profession, and loves how it allows patients to view dentistry in a different light.

This unique approach to apply a comprehensive, modern mindset to her practice matches Dr. Le’s vibrant and ambitious personality. When she’s not hustling to build her new dental business, Dr. Le loves to travel, try new foods with her fiance, and take walks with her 2 pups, Aiden and Maverick. As a testament to her active lifestyle, Dr. Le also enjoys biking at Jacksonville Beach, snowboarding in the Colorado mountains, and hiking up any mountain she can come across. Although she’s often on the go, Dr. Le still makes time to unwind because she truly believes in living with balance.

Dr. Le rises by lifting others. She volunteered at the Sulzbacher Center when she was a pre-dental student and continues to volunteer at the dental clinic until this day where she provides dental care for our homeless population. She also has partnered with and volunteers with Daniel Kids helping at-risk teenagers safely transition into independent living.
