🦵 Groin Pain After Hip Replacement? It Could Be Iliopsoas Bursitis
Hip replacement surgery can be life-changing 🙌 But if you’re feeling pain in the front of your hip or groin afterward, one possible cause is iliopsoas bursitis.
The iliopsoas muscle helps lift your leg — think climbing stairs or getting into a car 🚗. A small cushion called a bursa sits near this muscle to reduce friction. After hip replacement, that area can become irritated, leading to inflammation and pain.
🚨 Common Symptoms:
✔️ Deep groin pain
✔️ Pain lifting your leg
✔️ Discomfort with stairs
✔️ Pain getting in/out of a car
✔️ Sometimes a snapping sensation
This usually hurts most when actively lifting the leg.
🤔 Why does it happen?
• Mild implant prominence
• Changes in hip mechanics
• Tendon irritation
• Scar tissue
The good news? It’s often treatable 👍
💡 Treatment may include:
🧊 Anti-inflammatories
💉 Image-guided injections
🧘 Physical therapy
⚙️ Rarely, minor surgical correction
If you’re having persistent groin pain after hip replacement, it doesn’t always mean something is “wrong” with the implant. Often, it’s soft tissue irritation that can be managed effectively.
