Alpha-gal Syndrome: What It Is, How We Help, and Living With It
What is Alpha-gal?

Alpha-gal syndrome (AGS) is a type of food allergy caused by a bite from certain ticks (most commonly the Lone Star tick). The bite can trigger your immune system to react to a sugar molecule called alpha-gal, which is found in mammal (red) meat like beef, pork, lamb, and sometimes in other animal-derived products.

What makes it different?
Unlike typical food allergies, reactions are often delayed—showing up 3–8 hours after eating. That can make it harder to recognize.
