If your child is described as “nonverbal,” you may feel worried about speech development.

Many autistic and late-talking children communicate in ways that don’t always look like traditional speech.

Communication can include:
• Gestures
• AAC (augmentative & alternative communication)
• Signs
• Body language
• Vocalizations
• Eye gaze
• Movement

Speech is one form of communication, not the only valid one.

When we support communication broadly, we build connection, regulation, and autonomy.

Day 3 and we’re grooving 💛

It’s officially starting to look like a therapy space, and it’s coming together faster than I imagined.

While it’s not complete yet, I’m loving the process of creating a space designed to support fun, meaningful progress through play!

Day 1–2 of building Coastal Play & Progress 🛠️✨

Behind every “we got a location” post is a whole lot of moving, lifting, building, and figuring things out as we go.

We started setting up on one of the coldest days Florida has seen in a while (and even spotted a few flurries AND a rainbow ❄️🌈), hauling furniture, unpacking boxes, and slowly bringing this space to life.

So grateful for my husband for being right there helping me build, move, and problem-solve every step of the way. This wouldn’t be possible without him 💛

Every part of this space is being created intentionally, with the goal of making it warm, welcoming, and supportive for children to play, connect, and communicate.

I’m so excited to share that Coastal Play & Progress PLLC officially has a location!

The office will be located in Port Charlotte, serving families throughout Wellen Park, Venice, and the greater Sarasota and Charlotte county area.

There’s a lot happening behind the scenes as I prepare the space to support play-based, functional communication for the children and families I serve and I can’t wait to bring you along in the process!

✨ Hi! I’m Nichole, the speech-language pathologist behind Coastal Play & Progress PLLC ✨

I’ve spent the past 14 years working with children with special needs, and those experiences are what ultimately led me to become a speech-language pathologist. I’ve had the opportunity to work in both school-based and private practice settings, and along the way, I realized I wanted to create something of my own.

Coastal Play & Progress was born from a desire to truly focus on functional and meaningful communication through play, meeting children where they are, honoring their unique communication styles, and building skills that matter in their everyday lives.

My approach is child-led, connection-based, and rooted in respect for neurodiversity, because communication looks different for every child and that’s something to celebrate.

I’m so excited to be building this practice and connecting with families and community partners here in Port Charlotte, Wellen Park, Venice, and the greater Sarasota area.

✨ Coming Soon to the Wellen Park/Venice/Sarasota area ✨

I’m excited to introduce Coastal Play & Progress PLLC, a pediatric speech therapy practice grounded in connection, child-led support, and neurodiverse-affirming care.

Services will include evaluations and therapy for children with a wide range of communication styles, including gestalt language processors and children who are nonspeaking or use AAC, with experience supporting autistic children and other neurodivergent learners.

I’m currently in the process of securing an office space, but I’m sharing early to begin connecting with families and community partners.

Limited self-pay, in-home or telehealth services available on a case-by-case basis.
