In the middle of the night, two-year-old Lucas was having a hard time breathing due to a debilitating croup cough. A hard moment for any parent to watch, Lucas' mother took him to the emergency department at St. Charles Hospital. Upon arrival, they were warmly greeted by ED staff, immediately placed into one of the private ED rooms and was seen by emergency physician Dr. Garber.

To help with any nervousness Lucas may have had, the staff provided him with a puzzle, putting on the Disney Channel. After a quick steroid injection, Lucas' cough was gone. Lucas' mother was so grateful for the compassionate care her son received, she wrote this lovely thank you note, along with an adorable picture of Lucas. Lucas, we are so glad you are feeling better and enjoying the outdoors!

In 2022, patient John Gamble was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia, which occurs when a part of the stomach pushes through an opening called the hiatus in the diaphragm.

A year later, John experienced severe acid reflux, which was affecting his sleep and quality of life. John was referred to Dr. Arif Ahmad, Director of St. Charles' Center for Acid Reflux and Hiatal Hernia. Dr. Ahmad explained how a minimally invasive procedure called Fundoplication could help. After only a few days post-surgery, John was already feeling relief from debilitating acid reflux and remains symptom free, with no side effects.
