Congratulations to St. Charles’ entire robotic surgery team for having performed 5500 surgeries! Today, we celebrated this significant milestone with Robotic Surgeon Dr. Joseph Pinkhas and one of his patients, Mark Waka, a resident of Sound Beach and assistant principal at the John J Pershing School in Brooklyn.
For nine months, Mark pushed through debilitating pain, not sure what was causing it. Once Dr. Pinkhas identified three hernias, Mark underwent robotic surgery last November. Almost three months after surgery, Mark is back to normal and has been able to resume his quality of life.
If you are interested in learning more about St. Charles’ robotic surgery program or to schedule an appointment, please call (631) 474-6797.

Meet Tara, one of our recent St. Charles Rehabilitation graduates. Tara suffered an aortic dissection while attending her high school daughter’s soccer game. Luckily, Tara was able to get medical care promptly to stabilize her. After a long hospitalization, which included suffering multiple post operative strokes, Tara was transferred to St Charles for intensive physical, occupational, and speech therapy. When she first arrived, Tara was unable to move her entire left side and needed the assistance of two people to get out of bed and into a chair. Tara, a working mother of two, was now struggling to complete simple tasks for herself. Thankfully, Tara channeled all her energy into progressing daily with her therapies following a motto created by her husband, 1% better everyday! With a dedicated therapy team and immense family support behind her, Tara eventually progressed to being able to walk with a cane, wave with her left arm, and manage more day to day activities on her own. We are happy to share that Tara was able to accomplish her goal of getting home to her family before Christmas, her favorite holiday! We wish Tara and her family a happy and healthy 2026!

Meet Jean, who is undergoing video EEG monitoring at St. Charles Hospital after suffering a sudden seizure. She recalls that she was home and about to go for a drive, when she seized for the first time in her life. Thankfully, her daughter was home due to a change in her work schedule.
Jean said that God was watching over her. Had she been driving and seized at that time, things could have been very different. And the fact that her daughter happened to be home was another sign of fate.
Jean is so grateful to the staff, from aides, to nurses, Dr. David Anschel, saying that the care is the best she has ever had at any hospital and would recommend St. Charles Hospital to her family and friends “in a heartbeat!”
Thank you Jean, for sharing your story with us and wishing you continued recovery.

Mary Elizabeth and her husband welcomed their second child Isabel, and were so pleased with the care they received at St Charles’ Maternity clinic.
Mary Elizabeth said of her experience, “Dr. Ninia was very knowledgeable and personable making for a less nerve wracking pregnancy. Everyone was very accommodating and understanding. I would not only recommend the clinic, but would also choose it for future pregnancies too!”

AnnMarie Miller, a 🌼 DAISY Nurse Leader Award winner, is retiring after 29 years in nursing and 18 years as Director of St. Charles' Medical-Surgical Division. Admired by her colleagues, AnnMarie mentored so many over the years. Leaders across our organization today, lead the way they do because AnnMarie once believed in them, coached them, and challenged them to be better.
For nearly two decades in leadership, AnnMarie has been a steady and trusted presence through growth, change, and “all hands on deck” moments. She always led with clarity and conviction—engaging, firm, and fair—holding high standards, while always leading with kindness and respect.
Fiercely loyal. Deeply kind. Incredibly driven. AnnMarie showed her colleagues that leadership isn’t about titles—it’s about trust. Not about authority—it’s about influence. And not about recognition—it’s about impact.
As AnnMarie steps into retirement, we celebrate a career that strengthened the workplace, shaped a culture, and touched countless lives—patients and colleagues alike. Her legacy will live on in the leaders she mentored, the standards she set, and the hearts she impacted.
Thank you, AnnMarie, for everything you’ve given to nursing and to all of us at St. Charles Hospital . Enjoy every moment of this well-earned next chapter—you’ve more than earned it!
