Dorothy, born in Daytona Beach, Fla., grew up with three brothers and a sister. She married after high school, and became a mother to a daughter and a son. Dorothy worked at General Electric for 25 years. She found a passion for archaeology and contributed to the New Smyrna Beach Museum of History, particularly in researching the Turnbull Settlement. In 2015, her dedication to volunteer work earned her an award from Volusia County.

We were honored to celebrate National Pharmacist Day by recognizing the incredible dedication of our Novopharm pharmacy team. Jessica led the way, dressing up as a nurse for a lively round of "Pills & Skills" trivia, where winners took home some "Rx Skittles" and gummy bears.
The fun didn't stop there, as our "paw pals" were out in full force! Between visits from Mr. Bandit and a special appearance by Yazzy the dachshund—who dressed up as a cow for National Dress Up Your Pet Day—it was truly a week to remember. From health education to animal antics, Yazzy said it best: she had a "MOO-velous" time! 🐮💊🏥

We even We kicked things off with worship with the Faith Chapel group, keeping spirits high with snacks and cold drinks.

Since we couldn’t witness the Northern Lights in person, we spent the day bringing the magic of the Aurora Borealis to us! ✨ We started with an educational deep dive into the science behind the phenomenon, learning how solar particles and atmospheric gases collide to create those amazing colors. The rest of our experience was a wonderful mix of creativity and movement with a themed crossword puzzle and a high-energy game of noodle hockey under a simulated sky 🌌 We also dipped our brushes for our painting event to interpret the lights on canvas. 🎨 We even capped off the experience by baking Northern Light cookies to satisfy our sweet tooth! 🍪 It was a fantastic day filled with learning, laughter, and a bit of peace.

Happy National Activity Professionals Week! It is the perfect time to celebrate our Marquee Moments Director Jessica! 🙌🤩

An original member of the Reflections team, Jessica first joined us as a MedTech before her passion and creativity led her to become our Marquee Moments Director. She is a Florida native, a caring mother to three lovely daughters, and a devoted pet mother to a dog and bunnies. Jessica brings a vibrant spirit and innovative ideas to work every day. We love her determination to make a meaningful difference in our residents' lives and overall community spirit!

A Marquee Moments Director does so much more than "plan events"—they create moments of joy, foster deep connections, and ensure our residents live life to the fullest every single day. 🎨🎶

At Reflections, this role involves a dedicated cycle of care and creativity:
• Plan: Curating monthly calendars, birthday bashes, "field trips," and cognitive building activities with heart. ✍️🗓️🚌🧠
• Do: Gathering every supply, coordinating the music, and personally setting the stage for magic to happen. 🎶🎤🪄
• Engage: Bringing families together, capturing memories, and creating a true sense of belonging. 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 📸

Monday was Martin Luther King Jr. Day! 🕊️ We honored the legacy with a mix of reflection and fun—from "I Have a Dream" art and MLK documentaries to an ice cream social with brain teasers. 🍦
The highlight? A surprise visit from our favorite Paw Pal, Sandi! 🐾 We wrapped up the day with sunshine and MLK fun facts on the patio. ☀️

Happy Birthday to the King! 🕺✨
Last week we celebrated what would have been Elvis Presley’s 91st birthday. Our residents had a "hunka hunka" burning fun with 🎨 color therapy of Elvis portraits, brain teasers, and word searches, ☀️ Elvis Trivia while soaking up the beautiful weather,
🖌️ painting Elvis while jamming to his hits and snacking on his favorite: peanut butter and banana sandwiches! 🍌🥜

We had a "flying" good time celebrating National Bird Day! 🦜✨
Special thanks to Serena and her amazing Hyacinth macaw, Cody, for wowing us with tricks and even a little bit of chit-chat! We put our knowledge to the test with a "Name That Bird" trivia game—congrats to our winner, Tom! 🏆
To wrap up the day, we headed to the courtyard to build custom birdhouses. Our local feathered friends are going to love their new homes! 🏠🐦
