As part of our Marquee Moments program, last month residents were on a journey to Kansas! 🌻 After everyone secured their tickets and boarded the train 🚂, we spent the day immersed in the culture of the Sunflower State. We crafted beautiful sunflowers and challenged our minds with Kansas-themed trivia and wordsearches. 🧠 To top off the adventure, we enjoyed a traditional snack of Peppernuts—tiny, spiced cookies 🍪 with a history in Kansas dating back to the 1870s. It was a wonderful trip to the Heartland! 🌾

Happy Mardi Gras! Our day was absolutely filled with excitement as we dived into a variety of activities. We started with a Mardi Gras-themed word search and listened to the lively sounds of New Orleans jazz. Later, our beloved furry friend Addie joined us, decked out in festive attire. We were thrilled by a live performance from "Two Of A Kind," which featured bead distribution and a delightful treat of freshly baked beignets. 🎭

❤️ We had an amazing Valentine's Day! Our day started with Cupid trivia and Valentine's color therapy, keeping us busy with fun activities. After lunch, we set the stage for a Valentine's photo shoot, visited the tattoo booth for some charming ink, savored delicious cake, and enjoyed love bomb shots. We also voted for our king and queen, celebrating winners Tom and Amelia, with Paula and Carl as runners-up. We hope everyone enjoyed a sweet Valentine's Day just like we did!

A little something for everyone! 🐮🎨🎵💰
We enjoyed a game of "How Much Did It Cost?", comparing 1960s prices to today’s market. It was an eye-opener to see that a movie ticket has jumped from just $1.02 to over $16.00! To keep the good vibes flowing, the legendary Piano Paul joined us for a performance of timeless classics that had everyone smiling. We wrapped up the fun with a word search party followed by a creative painting session. Our stars of the show? The iconic, shaggy Highland cows of the Scottish Highlands! It was the perfect blend of nostalgia, music, and art.

We celebrated National Pie Day! 🥧 We celebrated with a "sweet" surprise: Banana Pie! 🍌 The highlight of the day? Our new ED, Beth, got a face full of pie! Miss Jessica organized a playful welcome where residents did the honors. From pie-themed brain teasers to decorating the activity room, it was a perfect way to celebrate. 🎲

Dorothy, born in Daytona Beach, Fla., grew up with three brothers and a sister. She married after high school, and became a mother to a daughter and a son. Dorothy worked at General Electric for 25 years. She found a passion for archaeology and contributed to the New Smyrna Beach Museum of History, particularly in researching the Turnbull Settlement. In 2015, her dedication to volunteer work earned her an award from Volusia County.
