Jumping Mouse Children's Center transforms lives by providing expressive mental health therapy for as long as necessary; ages 3 through 12. We nurture each child's healthy development and supportive relationships at home and in the community. ​​

We see children from all different types of families and do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, age, or ability. Our unique model includes weekly one-on-one therapy sessions between the child and a specially trained therapist for as many weeks as necessary. While their child is in therapy, parents and caregivers also receive ongoing support. In addition, we meet with teachers and other important adults in the child’s life to develop a strong support system for the child and their family.

Ever since 1999, when Dott Kelly took a stand under the banner of Jumping Mouse for the mental health needs of Jefferson County’s youngest children, the Rotary Club of Port Townsend has been an ardent supporter of children’s mental health.

From the PT Rotary's website: "This year’s breakfast paddle raise supports the PT Rotary Club’s Good Works and three fantastic local causes: Dove House, Jumping Mouse, and Chef Arran Stark’s brand-new Cooking School. That’s right — yummy food (concocted by magic Chef Arran) with a purpose!

✨ It’s here! The 2025 Give Jefferson campaign has officially launched! ✨

This year, local nonprofits are feeling the strain of major state and federal budget cuts, putting vital community programs at risk. Programs that provide:

Healing through play therapy

Jumping Mouse Children's Center derives its name from a Lakota myth about a small creature who undertakes a difficult journey. Along the way, he accepts the protection of larger animals, and offers his help to them in return. Through his courage, compassion, and trust in himself and others, Jumping Mouse is able to reach his destination, where he transforms into Eagle and soars. Like the hero of the myth, each child at Jumping Mouse Children's Center takes a brave journey that empowers them to engage with others and the world.

Children ages two to twelve come to Jumping Mouse for a variety of reasons, most often when they have experienced emotional stress or trauma that has deeply affected them and their families. Some are grieving the loss of someone close to them. Others have experienced domestic violence, abuse, or neglect. Sometimes, they are coping with changes in family structure, or a serious illness or medical problem. When these and other stressors affect a child's ability to communicate, to attend school, or to relate to others, Jumping Mouse therapists can help.

Jumping Mouse Children's Center is committed to unconditionally supporting each child's sessions for as long as needed. While their child is in therapy, parents and caregivers also receive the support they need to help their child heal. Thanks to community and foundation support, no family is ever turned away for inability to pay.
