We’re excited to share that Porthaven Post AcutePACS: Healthcare Elevated is partnering with Oregon State University to serve as a preceptor site for college students enrolled in public health, kinesiology, social work, or pre-med pathways.

Students will have the opportunity to complete internships, clinical hours, or shadowing experiences while learning in a skilled nursing setting.

Whether you’re exploring a future as a physician, physician assistant, nurse, social worker, or therapist, we’re committed to supporting students as they learn, grow, and discover where their passion fits within healthcare.

We’re incredibly proud to be given this opportunity by the university and can’t wait to launch this program and welcome the next generation of healthcare professional.

As we close out the year at Porthaven Post AcutePACS: Healthcare Elevated we want to pause and reflect on what truly made this year meaningful: our people.

This year brought challenges, growth, and countless moments that reminded us why post-acute care matters. Every day, our team showed up with compassion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to our patients, supporting healing, dignity, and hope during some of life’s most vulnerable moments.

We are deeply grateful to our nurses, CNAs, therapists, social services, dietary, housekeeping, and administrative teams for the heart and professionalism you bring to your work. To our patients and families, thank you for trusting us during your journey. And to our hospital partners and community collaborators, your partnership makes quality care possible.

As we look ahead to the new year, we remain committed to strengthening care transitions, supporting high-acuity needs, and continuing to build a culture rooted in respect, teamwork, and excellence.

A few highlights from this week at Porthaven ✨

We were grateful to welcome the wonderful girls from our local church choir, who filled our halls with music and joy while singing to our patients. We also had a special visit from the Grinch and Santa, bringing smiles, laughter, and a little holiday magic to everyone they met.

Moments like these remind us how powerful community, connection, and joy can be. What a great week at Porthaven. 💚🎄

Teddy, our beloved former therapy dog, stopped by to spread some holiday cheer and it meant everything to us. We are so thankful he came to visit. Our patients and staff were thrilled to see him, share a few smiles, and say hello.

We miss you so much, Teddy. Thank you for always bringing comfort, joy, and a little extra magic wherever you go. 🐾✨

Another feel-good discharge at Porthaven Post AcutePACS: Healthcare Elevated! Today we celebrated Peter Ferren, who recently moved to Oregon from California… and immediately let us know he’s a Dodgers fan. (We didn’t hold it against him. Rehabilitation is about healing, after all. 😂⚾️)

Peter came to us after a left parietal subdural hematoma, worked hard with our therapy team, and crushed his rehab like a champ.

Even our Director of Therapy showed up for his send-off — which means you know Peter was a favorite. 😉

Congrats, Peter! Enjoy being back home… and yes, we’ll allow your Dodgers loyalty just this once. 💙💪🏼✨

✨ Patient Success Story: Denise’s Journey ✨

Today, we celebrate an incredible milestone for Denise Shaw, a woman whose strength, patience, and determination carried her through a journey few could imagine.

After becoming critically ill with COVID-19 in 2023, Denise was hospitalized and required a tracheostomy to help her breathe. When she arrived at Porthaven, she faced a long road ahead—one filled with rehabilitation, respiratory support, and countless moments where she chose courage over fear.

For two years, Denise worked side-by-side with our respiratory therapy team, nurses, CNAs, and rehab specialists. Every day, she pushed forward, relearning independence and finding her voice again with the help of her Passy-Muir speaking valve.

Last week, Denise achieved something extraordinary, she was safely discharged home—confident, empowered, and managing her trach and speaking valve with strength.

Her smile said everything.

Denise’s journey is a powerful reminder that healing doesn’t always happen quickly, but it does happen when you have perseverance, support, and hope.
