ADHD doesn’t look the same in every child 💛

There are three common presentations of ADHD that we often discuss, because understanding your child’s unique profile is the first step toward meaningful support:

✨ Predominantly Inattentive ADHD: often overlooked; these kids may appear daydreamy, disorganized, or easily distracted rather than “hyper.”
⚡ Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive ADHD: especially present in structured settings; these kids may struggle with sitting still, impulse control, or big bursts of energy.
🌿 Combined Type ADHD: a mix of both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive traits, which can affect learning, emotions, and daily routines.

If you’re wondering whether ADHD could be part of your child’s story, we’re here to help you explore it, gently and thoughtfully. Contact us today 📞 (503) 208-4007

Kids with ASD communicate in many different ways, and understanding their communication profiles is key to supporting them 🗣️✨

Some common profiles include:
● Verbal communicators: use spoken words, but may have unique patterns like echolalia (repeating words or phrases).
● Nonverbal communicators: rely on gestures, facial expressions, or AAC devices (like speech-generating apps).
● Social communicators: may understand language, but struggle with back-and-forth conversations or social cues.
● Behavioral communicators: express needs and feelings through actions rather than words.

Recognizing a child’s communication profile helps caregivers and therapists provide strategies that boost connection, understanding, and confidence 💪

Have you ever wondered what a speech therapist really does? 🗣️

💡They’re not just about “speech,” they help kids develop their communication, social skills, language understanding, and even confidence. For neurodivergent children, a speech therapist can be a game-changer, offering strategies to navigate challenges, express needs, and build connections with others.

At Orchid Pediatrics, our team works closely with each child to support their unique strengths and needs. Every voice matters, and we’re here to help yours shine 🌟

Some sensory processing differences are easy to miss.

Not every sensory challenge looks like covering ears or avoiding textures. For many children, it shows up quietly: trouble with transitions, big emotional reactions to “small” things, exhaustion after school, or avoiding activities they once enjoyed. These signs are a form of communication.

At Orchid Pediatrics, we work to help families understand what their child’s nervous system may be telling them and guide parents with compassionate, neuro-affirming care.

If something feels off, trust that instinct. You don’t have to navigate it alone!🌱

When your child's emotions are in overdrive, it can be hard to know how to help. But, behavior is communication. Understanding what they are trying to communicate is the first step toward connecting 💚

A blood draw doesn’t have to feel like a battle 💚

For many neurodivergent kids, medical procedures can feel intense long before anything even happens. The lights, the sounds, the anticipation, and the loss of control.

That’s why at Orchid Pediatrics, we don’t rush. We listen. We adjust. We support parents every step of the way.

Gentle blood draws mean honoring a child’s nervous system, respecting their boundaries, and helping caregivers feel confident and supported in the process. Because when kids feel safe, everything changes 🌱

Some neurodivergent children experience pain more intensely. For many autistic, ADHD, or sensory-sensitive kids, pain can feel amplified by how their nervous system processes the world. Big reactions aren’t “overreactions”; their reaction is proportional to their experience.

Signs parents may notice include:
• Strong reactions to small injuries
• Distress during medical visits
• Trouble explaining pain
• Meltdowns or withdrawal instead of using words

If you notice these symptoms in your child, there are ways to help: believe your child, validate their experience, and advocate for sensory-aware care 🌱. Meet your neurodivergent children where they are, with compassion, patience, and individualized support 💚

“Strength lies in differences, not in similarities.” 💛

Every neurodivergent child brings their own way of thinking, feeling, creating, and understanding to the world. Those differences aren’t something to hide or fix, they’re where curiosity sparks, creativity blooms, and confidence can grow with the right support.

When kids feel celebrated for who they are, they learn that their differences are something powerful to be proud of 🌈

You might hear the term savant syndrome and picture a child who can do something extraordinary, like play complex music by ear, solve massive math problems in seconds, or remember tiny details with incredible accuracy ✨

…and sometimes, that’s exactly what it looks like: just like Rain Man or The Good Doctor or Scorpion.

Savant syndrome is when a child shows an exceptional ability in one specific area, often alongside developmental differences like autism or other neurodivergent profiles. These strengths can show up in music, art, memory, math, spatial skills, or patterns.

But behind every incredible skill is still a whole child with emotions, needs, challenges, and a nervous system that deserves understanding and support. Strength and support can exist side by side 💛

Neurodivergent kids aren’t “too much.”

They are deeply observant, curious, wildly creative, big-hearted, out-of-the-box thinkers 🧠🌈

That’s why care should begin with seeing the whole child as they are: their strengths, their sensitivities, their joy, and their challenges. Our societal sensitivities should not prevent children from receiving holistic, affirming care.

Every brain is beautifully wired in its own way, and every child deserves support that honors who they are. When kids feel understood and supported, confidence grows 💛
