When we have chronic pain or illness, we often ask ourselves, "What is wrong with my body?" We ask our doctors and look for medical explanations. When none can be found, they don't fully explain what we experience, or treatments are just managing symptoms - we can feel bewildered, confused or fearful of the future.
When the body stays hurt or sick, we often look outward for solutions. Many of these solutions can help but can often lead us to overlook the most crucial question to be asking ourselves - "what is the message of my health condition?"
Our bodies are complex and intertwined systems, with the brain running the control room. Our bodies showing up with persistent pain and other symptoms is a sign that something is threatening the system. But what if this threat extends beyond just an injury, bad genetics or poor diet? When we look at all of our possible life threats - such as fear of not being accepted, unfulfilled dreams, losing something we love or unresolved trauma - we open up to the possibility that true health and healing goes beyond just the physical body. When we are open and curious to these questions, we invite in the possibility to heal our whole lives.
