New from PIPS, our Portland Institute for Psychedelic Science π§ π
A recent study co-authored by Dr. Jason Luoma and Dr. Brian Pilecki surveyed over 850 mental health professionals, social workers, psychologists, and psychiatrists, to understand attitudes toward psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT).
Key findings:
π§ββοΈ Psychologists were the most supportive, viewing PAT as reasonable and acceptable.
π Psychiatrists reported high confidence in their understanding of PAT, but were more cautious about its feasibility.
π€ Social workers were more skeptical, expressing greater concerns and less belief in PAT's potential, highlighting a need for targeted education and training.
Why this matters: As PAT moves forward mainstream acceptance, understanding these disciplinary differences is crucial. If we want PAT to be accessible, safe, and effectively delivered, we need interdisciplinary collaboration, not silos. This research helps identify where education and training are most needed.
