Each circle will center a mystery plant ally, who we will sit with in meditation & experience sensually to open the circle. Only after this intentional time relating sensually & energetically, we will engage our intellects to discuss the featured plant’s constituents, folklore, & potential role in blessing our bleeding. Examples of appropriate harvest, dosage, formulation & preparation will be given as ideas, not instruction.

After the meditation & materia medica lesson we will weave our stories, knowledge, skills, & rituals for blessing our bleeding with plants & practical magic. Your facilitator will offer insights & anecdotes from her 20+ years of praxis, & participants are encouraged to bring their own unique medicine, in the form of inquiry, stories, wisdom & way-finding.

Join Sylvia Eden, author of Occult Needlecraft, for a unique live reading event and hand-mending workshop in the cozy, earthy atmosphere of Hedgerow Herb Co.

In contrast to traditional garment-mending, where the goal is to hide repairs with subtle stitches, visible mending is about turning repairs into ornamentation. Using beginner-friendly techniques, anyone can revive their old clothes with bits of artistry.

Bring all your garments & textiles in need of repair (yes, even sweatpants, socks and kitchen rags), choose from a wide selection of specialty threads and fabric patches, and stitch new life into your belongings. Meanwhile, listen to a live reading of excerpts from Occult Needlecraft and The Stitching Hands, a pair of essays exploring the magic potency of textile art and craft.

𝐓𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐞, 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝐛𝐢𝐨.

This is Stella Splendens, one of the oldest extant medieval manuscripts that actually reveals both lyrics and music, making it a rare treasure. Found in a 14th century manuscript from the Libre Vermell de Montserrat, this song was for the pilgrims that came and went through the mountainous landscapes surrounding Montserrat, a monastery 30 miles northwest of Barcelona.

It is originally written as a polyphonic (multiple voices) song, but sung here by Devon in her 14th century attire. Devon is a medieval living history enthusiast, with a special passion for textiles and music from the 700s-1400s. She will be leading the Singing Nettles song night on Dec 5th to introduce us to the world of medieval music. Participants will learn some sacred and secular songs in Latin, Middle English, and maybe some other surprises too.

Starting this November, we plan to meet twice a month for a folk singing group. This is a lovely opportunity to learn songs, sing in community, and build connections. No commitment is required, though the more we sing, the more we build our individual and collective voices.
