Your heart works hard for you — show it some love.

Cardiologist Dr. James Beckerman shares some simple tips for living a heart-healthy life.

🏃🏽‍♀️ Move your body every day. ➡️ Even 10 minutes of an activity you enjoy — walking, lifting weights or a neighborhood stroll — can significantly reduce heart disease risk.

🍎 Eat real, heart‑friendly foods. ➡️ Focus on whole foods and cutting back on added sugar, without strict diets or eliminating entire food groups.

😴 Prioritize quality sleep. ➡️ Aim for 7–9 hours a night and give your body time to wind down — limiting screens before bed can help.

Because of the generosity of Phil and Penny Knight, new frontiers in cardiac care are on the horizon. The Knights have given a second transformational gift of $75 million that will redefine possibilities at Providence Heart Institute and Providence St. Vincent Medical Center.

And that is not all. In the last 10 years, the Knights have given nearly $200 million to Providence Heart Institute, the largest overall contribution ever by a donor!

They are single-handedly accelerating the speed of innovation and discovery, bringing innovative care solutions to even more people in Oregon and across the Pacific Northwest. A prime example of the impact from their first gift is the certification of Providence’s heart transplant program.

The Knights’ philanthropy is a game-changer – for patients, for caregivers, for the future of health care. Thank you, Phil and Penny Knight, from the bottom of our hearts! ❤️

Together, we turned a storm of Styrofoam into meaningful action!

During three recent Providence Styrofoam collection events at Providence Health Plaza, Providence St. Vincent Medical Center and Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center, caregivers and the community brought in carloads of foam to be recycled.

In just four hours, volunteers filled five massive truckloads — a record-breaking effort that kept thousands of cubic feet of Styrofoam out of local landfills.

With support from City of Roses Recycling, Providence plans to host these events twice a year, with the next round coming this summer.

Today the dream of better, faster care is a reality, thanks to donors! Their generous support of Providence Oregon’s Tomorrow Starts Today Campaign raised an incredible $144 million to re-imagine emergency and cardiac care.

Together, we’re creating a brighter health care future, and Oregonians are already benefiting. Hear directly from caregivers on how philanthropy is creating a better tomorrow today in this short video.

➡️ What are the benefits for our community?

Providence St. Vincent Medical Center and Providence Portland Medical Center will have the capacity to support an additional 50,000 emergency visits. That’s the equivalent of a new emergency department in Portland. Construction will be completed this spring.

An innovative heart hub is under construction at Providence Heart Institute that will be a model for the future of cardiac care. Soon, cardiac operating rooms, procedure labs, an interventional recovery unit, a cardiac intensive care unit and caregiver lounges will be co-located on one floor of Providence St. Vincent.

We’re grateful to every person who helped make tomorrow possible today.
