In their textbook, Principles of Neural Science, on page 472, chapter 24 of the fourth edition, it states clearly that Pain serves as an important protective function: "It warns us of injury that should be avoided or treated."
*ignoring this "gift of pain" is to be done at our own peril.
How quickly to you call the mechanic when your engine light comes on?
How quickly do you throw out meat that smells bad?
How fast do you call the fire department when you smell gas, or your carbon monoxide alarm goes off?
If you move fast with those examples, you may want to pick up the pace when seeking help for your body. Waiting to see what happens when the CO alarm is going off, can lead to people being "un-alive" as they say. With statistics showing that back pain is the leading cause of disability worldwide, it may not be an end of life problem, but it could be an "end of quality of life problem".
Dr. Lou has been working with patients on identifying the cause of the symptom to work towards correction of that underlying issue that causes pain. He's been doing this since 2002 as a licensed doctor of chiropractic and then for another 2 years prior to graduation in the Cleveland Chiropractic College clinic in Kansas City, Missouri.
