We all want to have more joy in our lives. We want fewer problems to deal with, we want to find the perfect partner, we want the big promotion, and we believe that these things will bring us greater joy. OK, maybe some of these things can be sources of joy, but not alone, not even in combination with each other will they bring anything more than a transient happiness.
Real joy is not dependent on the events of the moment. It is based on your mindset, attitudes, and approach to life. Joy is not a result of a lack of issues, pressures, or the presence of someone close to you, it is what sustains you through trying times, and grants you something to share with that loved one. It is up to each of us to find our true sources of joy. I have found some of mine in quiet forest glades, wild whitewater rapids, in deep and abiding friendships, it is true. But the main joy I find is simply found in experiencing life, in understanding that situations are temporary; my being here – not so much so. I have a choice, in each situation, each and every moment, to react or to act. When I act I am in control, and can set my own mood, theme song, and actions. Since I plan on outlasting any situation, why should I allow it to interfere with my joy; with who I am, with how I choose to experience my day?
True joy comes from eliminating fears and uncertainties from our hearts. It comes from knowing who we are, and loving ourselves. From allowing ourselves to become vulnerable and to share real intimacy with others (and no, that is not a code word for having a lover).
Part of how I find joy is in utilizing my gifts, natural talents, and knowledge base to help others make their lives better. Sometimes I even get paid for it (talk about joy)! That’s where this blog comes in. As a writer, energy healer, Tarot reader, and personal adviser I am always looking for new ways to connect with people. This seems like a good venue to share some of the thoughts and beliefs that have shaped my philosophy and life, and maybe help to bring a little sense of community with my readers. Each week I’ll post something about life, relationships and dealing with life’s issues both big and small.
So welcome to this little corner of my mind. Relax, make yourself at home, and be joyful.
