Skateboarding: Thrill Meets Risk
The energy at our new local skate park is incredible—groms to rippers in their 50s all dropping in together. 🛹
As a sports medicine physician, I also see the injuries: wrist fractures from FOOSHs (Fall On Outstretched Hand), ankle sprains, and knee issues. That concrete is unforgiving.
But the benefits—strength, balance, community, and pure stoke—make it worth it. Reduce your risk by padding up, warming up, and knowing your limits.
Injured or have questions? Call Sports Health Northwest: 503-747-6376. Keep shredding smart! 🤙

High-quality CPR and early defibrillation are the strongest predictors of survival in cardiac arrest. As a sideline physician, I’ve seen that seconds matter—even elite athletes aren’t immune to sudden cardiac events.
AEDs are everywhere now: airports, schools, gyms. But they only save lives when someone knows how to use them.
Learn hands-only CPR. Familiarize yourself with AEDs. You don’t need to be a healthcare provider to save a life. You just need to be ready.

During summer weather conditions it is important to stay hydrated. When electrolyte levels drop, the muscles can become more prone to cramping. Intense physical activity, especially in hot and humid conditions, can lead to dehydration and excessive electrolyte loss through sweat, further exacerbating the risk of cramps.
