Wednesday marked the 2-year anniversary of the Police-Provider Joint Connection Program! This incredible program allows a pathway for recovery providers and police to work together to save lives and help the houseless community with addiction and behavioral health challenges without criminalizing addiction. This program has been a tool for PPB to connect individuals with life-saving resources like detox, basic needs referrals, addiction treatment, mental health and medical care, and other supports. In the first year, 74% of contacted individuals expressed interest in services, and 51% successfully received a referral. We're proud to be one of the many community partners that makes this program succeed! Boulder Care Bridges to Change CityTeam Quest Center for Integrative Health Transcending Hope Recovery Homes
How it works: When the police encounter active drug use in public, they will offer the individual the opportunity to meet with a trained outreach worker before writing a citation. If the person agrees, this outreach worker will be deployed to their location within 10 minutes and offer on-site resource connection and waitlist navigation for detox, showers, treatment, medical care, and more. They will then keep contact with each other, ensuring that the person continues getting support beyond this single point of contact.
