Shalom House, Inc.

Shalom House, Inc. At Shalom House we believe that when people have the appropriate support they can get better and lead fulfilling lives in the community.

Shalom House offers hope for adults living with severe mental illness by providing an array of community based mental health services and a choice of quality housing that help people lead stable and fulfilling lives in the community. Our model for success is grounded on the following four bases:

Housing-

Shalom House provides a choice of affordable, decent housing ranging from transitional housing and group homes to independent apartments. Individualized Services-

Shalom House offers a variety of services to help our clients gain the skills and confidence they need to achieve their own goals and to successfully reintegrate into the community. These services include community integration, skills support, peer support and many others. Inclusive Atmosphere-

We believe that mental illness is best managed when consumers and providers of mental health services work together. We don't make decisions for our clients, we help them learn how to make their own choices and provide them with ongoing support to ensure success. Fighting the Stigma-

Shalom House works in the community to reduce the fear and stigma associated with mental illness so that those who suffer from mental illness may flourish in the mainstream of community life.

You all showed up in a big way last week! We have received food donations, gift cards, and donations directly on our website. These donations will make a huge difference in the lives of those we serve. The need hasn't slowed down and we'll be accepting donations throughout November. If you're able to, we'd love your support. πŸ’š

Many of our clients - especially those living in our independent apartments or receiving housing subsidies - rely on SNAP benefits to feed themselves and their families. In response to the pause in benefits, we are opening a temporary food pantry. We need your help to stock it.

πŸŽ„Are you looking for a way to make the holidays brighter for your neighbors?πŸŽ„

Join us as we kick off our brand new holiday program, Feed-A-Neighbor and Wrap-A-Wish! We’re looking for community members to help provide the following:

🍁A Thanksgiving meal
🎁A few holiday gifts

All meals and gifts will go to someone in our community who lives with a persistent mental illness. Many of those we serve don’t have family to celebrate with, and you can be the reason they feel remembered. πŸ’š

Today is World Homeless Day. Worldwide there are roughly 330 million individuals living without homes. A small act of compassion can help change someone's life. Be part of the solution by:

βœ” Supporting social service organizations.
βœ” Educating yourself about local resources so you can share information.
βœ” Donating your gently used goods to organizations that support the unhoused.

The final day of sharing our Annual Starfish awardees! Today we're honoring Amanda and Darlene.

Amanda, Assistant Director of Clinical Services - Amanda was nominated by her peers for her positivity and her ability to manage staff and her work with a deep human connection. She is always asking, "how can I help?" whether in regard to covering shifts or managing crises, she is there to figure it out with her team. Amanda has a talent for lifting spirits and ensuring that everyone knows she has their back. She manages difficult cases with composure and brings clarity and innovation to all of her work.

Darlene, Certified Recovery Support Worker - Darlene was nominated by her peers for her flexibility and creativity. Her role requires her to work at multiple Shalom locations, which she does with ease and reliability, and without her, there would be gaps in the work we do. Darlene works closely with clients, and when a client who loves to fish could no longer do so because of an injury, Darlene was able to find him an online fishing game that he could do from home. This client was able to recover while still partaking in his favorite hobby. It is this dedication and willingness to go above and beyond that make her an incredible team member at Shalom!

Day four of sharing the recipients of our Annual Starfish Awards! Today we're recognizing Jonathan and Sarah.

Jonathan, Program Manager - Jonathan has been with Shalom for 25 years, and in that time, has mentored and cared for staff and clients. Jonathan was nominated for this ability to empower and connect with clients, and has been recognized for meeting clients where they are in their recovery journey, giving them space to process, grow, and learn how to move forward in their lives. He is known for breaking down stigma, creating a culture of respect, and ensuring all individuals feel valued. Shalom would not be the same without him!

Sarah, Assistant Program Manager - Sarah was nominated for her leadership and steadfast commitment to this work despite the challenges faced throughout the years. Through agency policy changes, client symptom acuity, and the endless needs of staff and clients, Sarah never wavers. Sarah is known for her ability to de-escalate tense situations, stay dedicated to her ethics, all while maintaining a calm and positive attitude. Sarah makes clients feel validated and heard, and leads by example with her teammates.
