On a recent visit to the Oregon Zoo, people supported by Albertina Kerr, along with staff, stopped by the rhino and elephant exhibits and had fun comparing one person’s wingspan to that of a California condor.

It's Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, and outings like this highlight the value of choice, access, and feeling part of the community.

We had a fun behind‑the‑scenes visit with our friends at the Beaverton Police Department!

Participants from our 𝘉𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘰𝘯 𝘐𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘋𝘢𝘺 𝘚𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴 site had the chance to ask questions, learn about daily police work, and connect with the people who help keep our community safe.

March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.

This year’s theme—𝘕𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘈𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘜𝘴 𝘞𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘜𝘴—is a powerful reminder that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities must be part of every conversation and decision that shapes their lives.

At Albertina Kerr, we see this in action every day. We support choice, honor individual strengths, and create opportunities for people to live, work, learn, and participate in their communities in ways that matter to them.

Everyone deserves the chance to live a full life—with access to competitive, integrated employment; safe and accessible housing; meaningful relationships; and physical and mental health care.

Thank you to the Oregon Council on Developmental Disabilities for leading this important conversation.

Participants at Kerr’s Powell Inclusive Day Services recently started volunteering at Sunshine Division, which supports food access across our community.

This is a new volunteer opportunity for Powell (our Oatfield site has been volunteering there for a while), and it’s been great to see participants get comfortable, focused, and engaged as they settle into the routine.

Volunteering offers a chance to work alongside others and be part of a shared effort. Experiences like this help build connection and confidence.

🌱 At Kerr’s Inclusive Day Services (Oatfield location), participants spent time growing new plants from cuttings—choosing stems, preparing soil, and caring for new starts as they take root.

It’s hands-on, calming work that invites patience and curiosity. Each plant reflects individual choice and care, with something meaningful to nurture over time.

Activities like this create space for learning, connection, and growth—one plant at a time. 🌿

Some people have favorite sports teams. Others have favorite musicians. And then there are people who are all in on Highland cows. 🐮

Recently, a person Kerr supports—who happens to be a devoted Highland cow enthusiast—visited a farm in La Center, Washington, where these iconic, long‑haired cows live. Not just to see them, but to feed them, spend time with them, and soak up every moment.

If you’re unfamiliar, Highland cows are known for their shaggy coats, sweeping horns, and calm, curious nature. They’re unforgettable—especially if you’ve admired them from afar for years.

This experience was about more than just a farm visit. It was about following an interest, making a connection, and having the chance to do something genuinely meaningful.

Moments like this show how important it is for people to explore what they love in their own way.

Use your Oregon tax refund to bring hope to young people in crisis.

If you’re getting an Oregon tax refund this year, there’s an easy way to make a meaningful difference. You can donate all or part of your refund to 𝐀𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐊𝐞𝐫𝐫 𝐊𝐢𝐝𝐬’ 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 through the 𝐎𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐨𝐟𝐟 — and help provide life‑saving support for youth across the state.

Last year, 213 young people received life-saving support through Kerr’s Crisis Psychiatric Care program. More than 90% were able to return home or move to a lower level of care.

What a fun night out! ✨

Some of the people we support recently went to the Night to Shine Prom, sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation — and it was such a good time.

There were fancy outfits, great music, shoe‑shine stations, photo ops, and plenty of chances to just hang out and enjoy being together.

Our staff was right there, joining the fun — cheering people on during the red‑carpet walk and making sure everyone had what they needed to enjoy the night at their own pace.

Friday, Kerr’s Inclusive Day Services spent the day doing what community is all about—coming together. 💌

Across all three of our Inclusive Day Services sites—Oatfield, Powell, and Beaverton—people gathered for Valentine’s Day parties filled with refreshments, crafts, and plenty of time to connect.

There was conversation, creativity… and yes, Valentine cards were exchanged, because who doesn’t love a handwritten note?

These moments matter. They’re about choice, relationships, and being part of something shared.
