Ujjayi Breath Series with Juliet
Part 3 of 4: Rising and Falling Sensation

To initiate deep breaths, expansion and contraction of your diaphragm along with the rising and falling of your belly allows for the breath to come down deep, instead of staying shallow in your neck or chest.

👉🏼Practice tip: soften and allow your ribcage to expand- side to side, front to back. Full 360* expansion. On your exhale, allow the air to leave naturally and then finishing with a nice slight contraction of ribs and core muscles.

power yoga brings the heat… Power Pilates refines!

This 60 minute class zooms in on muscles that are often underworked and overlooked with other activities. When smaller, supportive muscles are strengthened, your yoga practice feels stronger, your balance gets steadier, and your practice becomes more efficient.

Severina’s sequencing focuses on contemporary Pilates principles like spinal articulation, core activation and improved body control. The room is heated for the PPY sweaty vibe you know and love!

Drop in: $20
Included in passes and memberships.

Cool Down Yin
Next Friday 3/20 | 5:30-6:30pm
with Severina & Alyssa

This class features long-held, cooling poses that target tissues of the body that often get overlooked. Yin helps improve mobility, reduce accumulated tension from workouts and repetitive movements, and gives your nervous system space to downshift.

Hands-on assists are another juicy part of this class! Alyssa provides touch that is intentionally energetic and grounding. Instead of correcting or facilitating alignment, these assists are meant to settle and support you so you can feel a release of effort and tension. Ahhh.

$20 drop in. Included in passes and memberships.

It’s easy to say you value things like presence, courage, patience…

It’s attractive when we see them in others. We cognitively recognize positive qualities like that.

It’s totally another thing to embody them and let them shine through in small moments through out the day — when self limiting beliefs creep in, when the pose feels extra hard or when someone does or says something that isn’t what you hoped for.

Your personal playground = those exact moments.

The real practice is putting your beliefs and values into the muscle so to speak…into true action.

With pure curiosity and zero judgement.

It’s only from that place that you possess the power to live consciously and intentionally.

Without it, you remain asleep… and who wants to live like that?

Ujjayi Breath Series with Juliet
Part 2 of 4: Ujjayi Sound

The trademark piece of the ujjayi breath is the sound! It sounds like wind beneath the trees or ocean waves. It has a whisper sensation to it. This sound is created by dragging the air across the back of your throat instead of sniffing through your nose. Think of fogging a mirror!

👉🏼Practice tip: creating this sound by starting with a few audible “haaaaa” exhales through your mouth and then try sealing your lips but still creating the sound.

In our practice, the audible nature is the tool we use for successful synchronized group breath.

There are numerous benefits to the ujjayi breath like improved HRV (heart rate variability aids in recovery), vagal tone (calming effects on nervous system), enhanced oxygen efficiency and mental focus.

How much time would you say we spend, collectively, ruminating over:

• What to do? 💭
• What NOT to do?💬
• What should have been done?🤔
• What SHOULDN’T have been done?😵‍💫

🤯How many times do our stories about all of this stop us before we even start?

⛓️‍💥This cycle is asking to be broken—it’s calling your name!

👉🏼Do ONE thing today. Just one!

If your to-do list is causing you to just spin in a circle, do one thing. Start there.

If a conversation that’s only happening in your head needs to happen outside of your head, pick up the phone.

Be willing to give up the illusion of uncertainty and doubt and come back to reality by DOING instead of THINKING.

☝🏼All it takes is just one thing, TODAY!

Next Sunday 3/15
Kundalini Yoga with Darcy
12:30-2pm

As promised, we have rescheduled January’s Kundalini offering! Join Darcy for this practice that focuses on building heightened and strong awareness — physically, mentally and spiritually.

Kundalini combines repetitive movements (kriyas), specific breathing techniques, mantra, and meditation to create a powerful, efficient experience.

If you are a power yogi, this practice can be surprisingly powerful because it fills in the gaps. It strengthens the physical body while also balancing inner strength and stamina in more subtle and precise ways. It also trains breath capacity and endurance as well as mental focus. It’s a beautiful complement to our heated power classes.

Included in passes and memberships.

The most amazing thing about your brain is its ability to change. It’s plastic. Moldable, malleable, trainable!

How do you leverage this incredible quality so that it’s working FOR you in creating the life and health you desire?

By understanding how it works.

Here are 3 things to know about your brain and neuroplasticity:

1. Your brain doesn’t judge. It’s not a moral agent. It simply reinforces what you repeat. It is looking to optimize for less energy/effort.
If you scroll social media every night, your brain will strengthen those pathways. If you read or practice something new consistently, those connections get built instead.

2. Your brain generates predictions and identity based on history. Take for example the thought: “I am not a morning workout person.” When you start working out in the morning, your brain will initially try to convince you that you can’t do it. With time and effort, it becomes habit. It becomes “what you do.”
When behaviors become automatic and consistent, your brain begins to integrate them into your self-concept.

3. Old pathways are like superhighways.
Years of habits have become fast, efficient routes. Trying to do something new is like building a trail where no road exists yet — the signals are slow and uncertain. The only way to curb these well worn routes? Doing the hard thing… with repetition, it will become easier and more efficient.

What’s a habit or belief that is running your life… and how can you leverage your brain’s ability to change it?!

Ujjayi Breath Series with Juliet 🌬️✨

This brief video series will guide you through 4 simple steps to help you build and fine tune an effective ujjayi breath for your practice!

Part 1 of 4: Direct Airway Mechanics

Place your tongue gently on the roof of your mouth to create a clear pathway for air to flow down your throat to your diaphragm. Guide the breath along the back of your throat instead of just sniffing it through your nostrils.
Bonus: Check for tension in your jaw—let your upper and lower teeth soften and create a little space.

Try this at home or while you’re driving in your car! Like any other skill, ujjayi takes practice 😊
