The most amazing thing about your brain is its ability to change. It’s plastic. Moldable, malleable, trainable!
How do you leverage this incredible quality so that it’s working FOR you in creating the life and health you desire?
By understanding how it works.
Here are 3 things to know about your brain and neuroplasticity:
1. Your brain doesn’t judge. It’s not a moral agent. It simply reinforces what you repeat. It is looking to optimize for less energy/effort.
If you scroll social media every night, your brain will strengthen those pathways. If you read or practice something new consistently, those connections get built instead.
2. Your brain generates predictions and identity based on history. Take for example the thought: “I am not a morning workout person.” When you start working out in the morning, your brain will initially try to convince you that you can’t do it. With time and effort, it becomes habit. It becomes “what you do.”
When behaviors become automatic and consistent, your brain begins to integrate them into your self-concept.
3. Old pathways are like superhighways.
Years of habits have become fast, efficient routes. Trying to do something new is like building a trail where no road exists yet — the signals are slow and uncertain. The only way to curb these well worn routes? Doing the hard thing… with repetition, it will become easier and more efficient.
What’s a habit or belief that is running your life… and how can you leverage your brain’s ability to change it?!
