We are excited to invite you to our upcoming event, Stewardship: Tending the Inner Resource and Commitments to Justice and Ecology, on Thursday, November 27th, at 10:30 AM led by Allegra Chabay.
This event is rooted in gratitude for the land we occupy and is dedicated to honoring its first stewards. We hope this day serves as an opportunity for reflection, appreciation, and respect.
100% of the profits from this event will be donated to the Native American Youth and Family Center (NAYA).
NAYA is a regional center committed to Native resilience and self-determination. They create culturally specific programs focused on healing historical traumas, restoring balance, and achieving thriving Indigenous futures.
Registration and Attendance: This event is complimentary for all current Elk Rock Yoga members and package holders; otherwise, regular class rates apply. We strongly encourage you to register in advance, as we expect this event to sell out quickly.
We will also have a donation box available at the event should you wish to contribute additional funds directly to NAYA.
Thank you for your generous support of this important work.
On December 6th join us for another first Saturday Restorative Sound Bath.

We wanted to share an update on our commitment to social justice at Elk Rock Yoga. Since the pandemic, we have intentionally focused on integrating social justice principles into our yoga practice, as we believe yoga itself is a practice of social justice.
Over the past five years, our initiatives have included:
* Hiring a BIPOC team to conduct an anti-racist audit of our website.
* Offering $5 classes and keeping our doors open for essential workers.
* Partnering with various non-profits and grassroots organizations.
* Providing discounts and free services for those working in systems like education and healthcare.
* Creating opportunities to foster socioeconomic diversity within our community.
We firmly believe that during these times of injustice, a yoga studio can serve as a powerful space for connection and positive impact.

The somatics of social justice cannot be aimed at restoring the body to a state of homeostasis/neutrality. We must be careful of popular languaging such as the 'regulation' of nervous system & emotion, which implies the control and domination of mind over emotion & sensation.
Because we are not, in the end, preparing the body to 'return' to the general safety of society (this would be gaslighting). we are preparing the body, essentially for struggle—training for better survival & the ability to experience joy in the midst of great danger.
In the cauldron of social justice healing praxis, we must aim for relationality that has the potential to generate social change, to generate insurrection. we must be prepared to challenge norms. acknowledge danger. embrace struggle. take risks.
& above all, we must not overemphasize the importance of individual work (which is important indeed) to the detriment of a somatics that also prepares us, essentially, for war. somatics that allow us to organize together. fight together. live together. love each other.

Ayurvedic wisdom offers guidance for Vata season, which often brings symptoms like dry nasal passages, dry skin, and a sense of burnout.
To help mitigate these effects, we recommend incorporating yin yoga poses, lubricating nasal passages with a neti pot or nasya oil, practicing pranayama, ensuring you get extra rest, and consuming warming foods like Ayurvedic kitchari.
We sell an excellent spice mix for kitchari at our sister store, The Outpost. This spice mix is grown and harvested at Banyan Botanicals farm in Southern Oregon, and each package includes a recipe.
