Warning: Following reports of lead poisoning cases in Oregon, we advise parents and caregivers not to buy or feed baby food called Good & Gather Baby Pea, Zucchini, Kale, Thyme Vegetable Puree to children. The baby food has been recalled by the FDA.

Two cases of elevated blood lead levels in babies were detected in Oregon.

Lead exposure can negatively affect children. There is no safe level of lead in the blood for children, and even low levels can have lifelong health impacts, including damage to the nervous system and learning, hearing and speech problems.

Parents and caregivers of toddlers and young children who may have consumed Good & Gather Baby Pea, Zucchini, Kale, Thyme Vegetable Puree should contact their child’s healthcare provider about getting a blood test. Families should check their homes and throw away any containers they find.

You might be experiencing some irritating bugs in your house right now, and The Oatmeal certainly got it right with this one. Boxelder bugs swarm when temperatures drop in the fall, and they like to come inside your home where it’s warm. While they’re certainly irritating, they’re harmless. They don’t cause damage to plants, structures or people.

While they’re harmless, they certainly can be irritating. The best advice? Suck them up with a vacuum if they come into your house, don’t squish. They have an unpleasant “alarm smell” you can avoid if you vacuum them up. Do a little work to exclude them from coming inside: it’s a good time to seal up cracks and crevices, and repair window screen holes and insulation. Chemicals are rarely more effective than vacuuming and aren’t recommended. A cold winter will kill off most of the overwintering adults without chemicals.
