Today, the Oregon House passed HB 4088 — a priority bill for the OMA. The bill allows clinicians to safely provide legally protected care in Oregon without fear of retaliation or punishment, and protects patients’ rights to make informed decisions about their own health. Passing HB 4088 is a win for clinicians and patients.

Reflections on Black History Month and Leadership by OMA President-Elect Reva Ricketts-Loriaux, DO:

"As a Black female physician serving in various leadership roles, including as President-elect of the Oregon Medical Association, I am continually reminded that our profession is at its best when we lead beyond our clinic walls."

"Physician and PA engagement in advocacy, mentorship, and community partnership is not extra work; it is essential and uplifting work. It is how we carry forward the legacy of Black leaders and allies who have long advanced justice, access, and dignity in health care. Their example challenges us to show up, speak up, and invest in the next generation."

"This Black History Month, I’m reflecting: not only on history, but on Black futures. Futures where representation is the norm, equity is embedded in every system, and every community in Oregon and beyond has the opportunity to thrive in health and in life."

"When we mentor, advocate, and stand alongside our communities, we don’t just practice medicine, we help shape a more just and healthier world for all."

“'Become the ripple that starts the tide.'”

A message for your patients from Rethink the Drink in collaboration with the Oregon Health Authority:

February is National Cancer Prevention Awareness Month, a time to reflect on the steps we can take to protect our health. One way is by drinking less alcohol. Did you know that it's linked to seven types of cancer? Because alcohol is a carcinogen, less drinking means a lower risk for serious long-term health problems.

Today the Oregon State Senate passed SB 1527, which would eliminate out-of-pocket costs for patients who need diagnostic follow-up care after an abnormal cervical cancer screening. If the bill passes the House, and is signed by the governor, Oregon would be the first state to adopt such a policy. The OMA congratulates the Oregon section of the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists (ACOG) for its tireless advocacy on this issue.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death for women in the United States, yet women continue to be underrepresented in cardiovascular research. National Wear Red Day seeks to raise awareness of the prevalence of CVD in women, and that heart attack and stroke can occur at any age. Controlling blood pressure, blood glucose, and cholesterol helps lower your risk for CVD.
