The start of a new year feels like a clean slate — a chance to reflect, reset and map out what you want the next 12 months to look like. For many of us, this is a great time to re-evaluate aspects of our lifestyles, including our relationships with alcohol. Whether you’re keen to cut back, take a break or go booze-free altogether, this tool can help you create a plan with changes that stick:

As indoor gatherings increase during the holidays, the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) urges everyone to get vaccinated against the flu. The percentage of positive flu tests is on the rise, and cases are expected to peak in early spring. People can get the flu vaccine by contacting their health plan, clinician, county public health clinic or federally qualified health center. To search for a clinic, call 211 or visit 211info.org.

All of us at the Oregon Medical Association wish you a safe and wonderful holiday season filled with health, happiness, and joyful memories.

As we reflect on the past year, one word rises above the rest: gratitude. Your commitment to caring for Oregonians — and your support of the OMA — affirms something essential: the practice of medicine in Oregon matters.

Please note: the OMA office will be closed from noon on December 24 through January 1. The year ahead holds tremendous promise, and we look forward to partnering with you in 2026 as we work together to advance the health and well-being in our state.

Warmest wishes,
The OMA Team

A message for your patients from Rethink the Drink in collaboration with the Oregon Health Authority:

Across the U.S. and in Oregon, alcohol is involved in more than one-third of motor vehicle crashes. If you do intend to drink this holiday season, make a plan ahead of time so you can get to and from your event safely. That could mean having a designated driver or taking a rideshare service. It can also include counting your drinks, setting a limit and considering non-alcoholic alternatives.
