Fertility Series: Part One
I’ve been speaking with many people on the path to conception. A common question I hear is: How can natural medicine support this journey?
First, there is no single “right” way to approach preconception. Every body, partnership, and timeline is different. What feels supportive for one may not for another. But there are meaningful ways to nurture healthy, thriving families.
For me, the first step is intention.
A pause.
A moment where you say — to yourself, your partner, and your future baby — yes, I want this.
When we become intentional, we shift from passively hoping into consciously welcoming. That shift changes how we care for ourselves and how we show up in the process.
Your timeline will depend on your age, health, relationship, stress load, and readiness. In general, I suggest allowing at least a three-month preparation window. This is how long it takes for s***m and egg to mature. The s***m and egg that create a pregnancy began developing about three months before conception.
That window is an opportunity.
To nourish your body.
To replenish nutrients.
To support sleep and stress regulation.
To create a healthy embryo and a supportive womb space.
From there, the approach can vary.
Some people prefer comprehensive testing and clear markers. They may use targeted supplements, adjust nutrition and lifestyle, track cycles, and receive therapies like acupuncture.
Others begin with more spaciousness — focusing on intention and connection before adding layers of support.
Neither approach is wrong.
If you’re nearing a season where you’d like to welcome a baby, start with intention — and find a provider you trust. Conception is rarely perfectly linear. Having support in place means you don’t have to navigate it alone.
In Part 2, I’ll share specific naturopathic and holistic modalities that can support fertility.
