💨High Wind Advisory in Oregon! In effect Wednesday, December 24th from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Strong winds can be dangerous. Please read and share these safety tips from the National Weather Service to prepare for power outages, downed trees, and difficult driving conditions.

🏠The safest place during high winds is indoors.

💨If high winds are expected:
• Stay inside if you can.
• Postpone outdoor activities.
• Secure loose items like patio furniture, trash cans, or decorations.
• Bring in items from balconies or yards that could blow away.
• Listen to weather updates on TV, radio, or trusted weather apps.

💨If you're outside during high winds:
• Take cover next to a building or under a shelter.
• Stay away from roads and train tracks.
• Use handrails on walkways.
• Avoid high places like roofs or balconies.
• Watch for flying objects like tree branches or signs.

⚠️ If you see downed power lines:

• Call the power company, like PGE and PacifiCorp
• Stay far away from the line and anything touching it.
• Do NOT touch the line or try to move it.
• Warn others to stay away.
• If someone is hurt, call 911. Do not touch them.

🚗 If a power line falls on your car:
• Stay inside the car.
• Do not touch metal parts.
• Honk the horn and ask someone to call for help.
• Only leave the car if it is on fire, and jump away without touching the car.

🚗If you are driving:
• Slow down and keep both hands on the wheel.
• Watch for debris on the road.
• Keep space between your car and others.
• Be extra careful in trucks, vans, SUVs, or if towing.
• If driving becomes unsafe, pull over away from trees, stay in the car, and turn on hazard lights.

Strong winds can cause falling trees, power outages, and flying debris. Your safety matters! Please take these steps seriously and stay safe.
