Based in Portland, Oregon Christina King offers a trauma-informed and friendly approach to help restore your health and confidence after a difficult experience. Christina represents one of less than 150 board-certified ocularists in the United States, and she takes over the practice from renowned ocularist Fred Harwin, who served patients for several decades. The Center for Ocular Prosthetics's patients have ranged from the tiniest of babies to the elderly. They may be survivors of bungee cord accidents, fireworks, or cancer. Christina takes the time to get to know each patient, and personalizes their eye with a tiny painting of their choice.

Grief isn’t something we can contain or define. It looks different for everyone, no two experiences are ever the same.

Some people carry it quietly, tucking it away for years, while others face it head-on in the moment. There’s no timeline, no “right” way to move through it.
Time doesn’t erase grief, it simply changes how we learn to live alongside it.

What truly shapes us is not what we’ve lost, but how we choose to carry it forward. The way we honor it, grow from it, and allow it to soften us rather than harden us. Even in the heaviness, there is space for healing, for connection, and for meaning.
Because in the end, it’s not just about what we’ve been handed, it’s about what we choose to do with it.

It just makes sense.

Look how far we’ve come.
I use to be terrified of painting eyes on the hazel spectrum but what better way to get over that, then to just practice, practice practice. I spent a lot of time looking at the colors that make up those eyes and patterns in which they are laid.

Y’all this needs to stop. Spring break can not come soon enough. And I still have so much to do next week. I’m not sure if anyone lives at this house but the past two days have been very triggering.

As an ocularist it is our duty to fill the area surrounding the socket. We bill under durable medical equipment. In a way if you think of a leg or arm, it’s the same thing. Society in the past has placed its own views on what those replacements should look like, without the input from the person wearing it.
I have heard everything from “fun eyes are demeaning to the society” to “you will look like a freak”.
Generally these are the same professionals that are still making super uncomfortable eyes, non circular iris’s and pupils that have smeared. They also do nothing to fix their own work. And that says a lot about a person, as their work serves as a platform of advertisement.
So as I stay silent about those who have spoken out against fun eyes, I’ve also waited to see first hand what their work looks like as well. And I can tell you, just because someone is older, just because someone claims they’ve worked on someone famous, none of that matters. In fact if they are going around saying who they’ve worked on that is against HIPPA!

Guess I’m getting a little old because this caught me off guard but, thought I might remind everyone that if someone call you asking for any information about yourself with only partial information about you don’t fall for it. If they try to pull you away from others, family, speak so quickly it doesn’t allow you to process what’s going on, chances are, it’s a scam. Or worse, I realize now this could have also been a s*x trafficking case or worse. And for your amusement I will add the police impersonators phone number to my description… 5038525931
