When you take a deep breath during a stressful moment, or when you offer a genuine apology after losing your cool, you are teaching your child how to navigate life’s ups and downs.

Parenting is hard, heart-stretching work. Often, we are our own harshest critics. Today, try a "random act of kindness" for your own mental health: Forgive yourself for a "messy" moment this morning. Take five minutes to sit in the sun or enjoy a quiet cup of tea. Replace a self-critical thought with: "I am doing my best, and that is enough."
When we fill our own cups with kindness, we have so much more to pour into our children.
