Setting a good example doesn't mean you have to be perfect. In fact, one of the best examples you can set for your child is showing them what to do when things don't go perfectly. When you take a deep breath during a stressful moment, or when you offer a genuine apology after losing your cool, you are teaching your child how to navigate life’s ups and downs.

At Family Roots Therapy, we’re here to help you build the emotional tools you want to pass down to the next generation. Happy Set A Good Example Day!

Want to build long-term confidence in your child? Try shifting from "Good job!" to observing their effort. When we say, "I noticed how hard you practiced that," we help them develop an internal sense of accomplishment that stays with them for life.

New episode is out now! In Episode 19, Kaleigh and Stephanie dive into the art of validation. We explore why acknowledging your child’s feelings is the fastest way to help them regulate; and how you can validate their emotions even when you need to set a boundary on their behavior.

Validation doesn't mean you agree with the tantrum; it means you agree that their feeling is real. Join us as we break down how to do this in the heat of the moment!

Family Roots Therapy is proud to offer Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) - a specialized model designed specifically for children ages birth to 6 who have experienced trauma, domestic violence, or separation.

Unlike traditional therapy, CPP focuses on the relationship between the caregiver and the child. By using play-based interventions, we help you and your little one process difficult experiences together, rebuilding a sense of safety and strengthening the bond that serves as their foundation for life.

Healing is possible, and it starts with connection.

Parenting is hard, heart-stretching work. Often, we are our own harshest critics. Today, try a "random act of kindness" for your own mental health: Forgive yourself for a "messy" moment this morning. Take five minutes to sit in the sun or enjoy a quiet cup of tea. Replace a self-critical thought with: "I am doing my best, and that is enough."
When we fill our own cups with kindness, we have so much more to pour into our children.

Happy Valentine’s Day from Family Roots Therapy! ❤️ Today, we’re celebrating the deepest kind of love; the kind that nurtures, protects, and helps a child grow.

Wishing you and your "little roots" a day filled with connection.

We're back with a new episode! In Episode 18, Kaleigh and Stephanie have a heart-to-heart about helping kids navigate a scary world. It’s a vulnerable conversation about talking to our children through traumatic events; even when we feel scared or disregulated too. We explore how to provide safety for our little ones while honoring our own emotions as parents.

You don’t have to have all the answers to be a safe harbor for your child. Listen in to find some comfort and tools for these difficult days.

Grab your coffee and join us for this essential conversation on the Family Roots Podcast. In Episode 17, Kaleigh and Stephanie dive deep into the reality of staying regulated when your child is dysregulated. We talk about why your own ""calm"" is the most powerful tool you have, and—most importantly—how you can actually achieve it (at least most of the time!).
