At BGCP, we know that new experiences can open up new possibilities. ✨

Take, for example, a field trip to Cannon Beach. For some Club members, it was their first time seeing the ocean. 🌊 For others, it might’ve been their first time leaving . They ran through the sand, flew kites, and chased bubbles in the breeze. Simple moments, big .

Because of supporters like you, a single day became an unforgettable memory, and showed our members just how close other worlds and experiences are to them. đź’™

At our October Cultural Health Series (CHS), we were joined by AGE+ for a powerful conversation on promoting age-positivity. Subject matter experts from AGE+, including Stephanie Hooper, Julia Brown and Olivia Robinson, delivered insightful, research-based content and facilitated dynamic breakout sessions.

Thank you to all who attended, both in-person and virtually. The full training is now available – watch to revisit the discussion and explore the tools and practices shared:

This session takes a deep dive into *ageism* and *age positivity* , exploring how age bias shows up interpersonally, internally, organizationally, and system...

We’re honored to serve as the presenting sponsor of this year’s Native American Youth and Family Center (NAYA) Gala and Auction. The annual event supports NAYA programs that strengthen education, housing, family services and economic development for Native youth and families.

This Native American Heritage Month, we join NAYA in celebrating the resilience and strength of Indigenous communities by honoring the theme: “Weaving an Abundant Future with Tradition and Vision.”

We look forward to the gala on November 14, 2025, at the Portland Art Museum, for an evening of connection and shared commitment to a healthier future for absolutely everyone.

Wondering what to expect during a mammogram?
It’s a quick, routine screening that usually takes about 20 minutes. You may feel some pressure for a few seconds, but most people describe the experience as painless and are able to return to normal activities right away.

To prepare:
- Skip deodorant, lotion or powders that day
- Wear a two-piece outfit for easier changing
- Remove jewelry before the exam

Early detection saves lives and breast cancer is most treatable when caught early. If you’re due for a screening, talk with your provider. To learn more about mammograms visit, https://careoregon.org/members/getting-and-staying-healthy/breast-cancer-screening-resources

During the government shutdown, SNAP benefits are put on hold, meaning thousands more are facing hunger. Your gift helps Oregon Food Bank fill this urgent gap and provide food to our community.

The Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) has announced that full November SNAP benefits have been loaded onto EBT cards.

Before heading to the store, ODHS encourages checking your EBT balance prior by using the official EBT Edge website or mobile app.

We are deeply grateful for our community partners, food banks and local businesses who organized to support our neighbors and members during the gap in benefits. Your efforts helped ensure families had access to essential food and resources during a difficult time.

November SNAP benefits are here in Oregon! The federal government remains shut down, but ODHS was able to issue full November SNAP benefits with federal approval. We know how important these benefits are, so we worked quickly to begin issuing benefits last night. Everyone should have full November SNAP benefits on their EBT cards this morning, Nov. 7, 2025 - even if you normally receive SNAP later in the month.

Before shopping, check your EBT card balance to make sure their benefits have been issued. There are several ways to check your balance:

- Call ebtEDGE customer service toll-free at 888-997-4447
- Visit https://ebtEDGE.com
- Use the ebtEDGE mobile app

ODHS does not recommend any other EBT management websites or apps.

While the release of SNAP benefits is not a scam – we want everyone to remain aware of potential scammers who could be trying to take advantage of the confusion in this situation. Do not click any suspicious links in emails, texts or social media posts, and only trust ODHS for information about Oregon benefits. You can find tips to protect yourself from electronic theft here: https://www.oregon.gov/odhs/benefits/Pages/protect.aspx

Black women in the U.S. are approximately two to four times more likely to die from pregnancy related causes than other racial groups – yet 80% of pregnancy-related deaths are preventable.

We believe every person deserves a safe and equitable birth experience. That's why we created the Dr. Nathalie Johnson Scholarship, honoring one of Oregon’s leading breast cancer surgeons and a tireless advocate for health equity.

Launched in July 2024, the scholarship supports Oregon medical students from historically underrepresented backgrounds who are committed to reducing the Black maternal mortality gap.

We’re proud to support Dr. Johnson’s legacy and invest in the next generation of medical leaders working to make health care more equitable for all.
