The People's Yoga

The People's Yoga The People's Yoga was the first low-cost community-oriented yoga studio in Portland.

The People’s Yoga was established as a response to members of our community who found yoga was financially out of their reach but who wish to be included in the many and varied healing benefits the practice has to offer. It is our goal to foster a diverse, non-dogmatic, warm and encouraging environment free of competition and expectations to fit within the commercial mold. Our job is to provide the highest quality of yoga instruction and ensure that it is accessible to all, regardless of economic barriers. To that end, we are grateful for the help of our highly experienced teachers. It is their skill, their passion for their students and their personal appreciation for the gifts of yoga that create the unique environment that is the foundation of our community. You can join us at any three of our eastside locations on any day of the week. We offer more than 70 yoga classes per week, with styles ranging from beginner to advanced, and you are welcome to all of them. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us at ContactUs@ThePeoplesYoga.org. Note that our Mississippi location is on the 2nd Floor and is only accessible by stairs. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and our other three locations are all ADA accessible.

NE Killingsworth has been sporting this barrel for the past 6 months - but y’all know it’s time to push care out to our community. If you’ve got the means to donate, we collaborate with St Andrew’s Food Pantry on Alberta. The pantry is open Wed-Friday mornings for community members to pick what they need - be it food, laundry detergent or tampons.

You can drop donations off in the barrel while you’re in for class! 🤸

Come with your grandpa, come with your toddler, come by yourself and relish in the messy magnificence of practicing yoga with folks allllll across the age spectrum.

The practice offered in these classes will (in terms of asana) looks like a lot of Hatha Flow classes you attend at People’s - just with the added inspiration & sound track of seeing a wiiiiide range of ages interpret presence from their present state of being.

$5-40 sliding scale for each human

Correction! Y’all, I miswrote the time in my post about Matt’s workshop coming at you this Sunday. Join him 2:30-4:30p at SE Hawthorne 🫶 This focused workshop on the dynamic hips will explore how we can release hip tension and tightness, creating functional strength, stability and mobility. We will use a combination of integrative, therapeutic yoga postures and breathing techniques as we explore how the hips play a vital role in so many everyday movements.

Audra is adding a workshop to the June schedule! Join her for 4 Tuesday evenings in June 7:15-9p for “A Therapeutic Compassion Group: Evidenced Based Practices for Expanding Our Hearts and Minds”. This is not an Asana practice, but time to gather in learning, reflection and practice on the art of compassion.

In Audra’s words, “What happens when we release the hypervigilant inner voice that is constantly monitoring and policing us, pointing us toward an unattainable perfection and “rightness” and move toward love? Come find out. Let’s spend Tuesday evenings in June exploring compassion theory and practices. Expect laughter, neuroscience, journal writing, group work, meditations, and plenty for you to take back into your daily life. Compassion often needs a witness because we often cannot see when we are being hard on ourselves, and group work is the perfect way to soften into the unfamiliar stance of love.”
