What I love about book signing is meeting the people who want to read my book on African American postpartum care traditions, and getting to hear a little bit of their story . We are in a time history where the old way is not working so we have to create a better way. The cold part, we already have a better way in our historic culture.
We just have to learn it, believe it, and practice it. My Practicing African American Postpartum Care Webinar on April 4, 2026, discusses in depth the how and why of these practice. You can register under advanced training.
We have the right to enjoy our motherhood, and we have the responsibility to know how to mother the mother .

In my book “Mothering the Mother” . I mention the evidence that postpartum mothers need fats to help postpartum hormones and brain health. I sautéed the finely chopped vegetables and shrimp in butter and coconut oil, for the health fat content. The coconut milk added to the soup helped with breastmilk production, helping mama feel full, along with strengthening her immune system to help reduce postpartum infection.

At the Mother’s of Gynecology Conference 2026 with and .
The power of these metal statues of young Black women who were tortured at the hands of Doctor James Marion Sims, is a reminder of the historic abuses on Black women’s bodies. At the conference we heard about projects, initiatives and training to empower Black women, with a reminder to use Black midwives for their births, to train as Black midwives, for doulas and midwives to unite, for Black birthing women to stay out of hospital beds in labor and to not be afraid to be pregnant and give birth.
