Portland, OR based yogini & instructor. Galen was first introduced to yoga as a supplement to her ballet training over a decade ago.

She loved the familiarity of the dance-like movement and caught the yoga bug right away, but found herself busy living abroad, attending college, and working in New York City. Looking for a new way of life, Galen moved to Portland, listened to her intuition, and signed up for YoYoYogi’s teacher training course under the direction of Alex and Terri Cole. Daily yoga practice and study quickly left her feeling more balanced, secure, and happy, and Galen hopes to share these sentiments with each of her students through her creative Vinyasa flow classes.

In honor of Maternal Health Month, this special class will acknowledge the both/and of parenting as well the sometimes heavy and complicated emotions that come with trying to conceive, pregnancy, and motherhood.

Class is designed to be gentle and welcoming to all yoga levels.

I’m excited to return to my roots and teacher HOT Power Yoga in NW Portland! Join me every Monday at 4pm & Tuesday at 1:30pm starting in October (ahem, that’s tomorrow) for a sweaty, strong, yoga flow!

Welp! I blinked and summer is coming to an end as are outdoor yoga classes 😿. Fear NOT! I still have 2 FINAL pop-up outdoor yoga classes at Wallace Park - one being tonight!

Join me for yoga at 6pm and bring your dinner so we can turn around after class and watch the amazing show that is the swifts 🐦 diving into the chimney at Chapman Elementary! The weather looks perfect ☀️ for class, so bring a mat and a friend, and come join me in NW Portland!

☀️It's Park Yoga Season! 🌳

Join me for outdoor yoga at Wallace Park in NW Portland every other Monday at 6pm starting 6/17 (tomorrow) and at Irving Park in N Portland every Thursday at 4:30pm with NOW Yoga starting 6/27. Check out the link below for more info!

Bring your own mat, water, hat, sunscreen - whatever you need to be comfortable. I'll have a few extra mats to share.

I'd love for the Wallace Park class to become a fun gathering that you look forward to throughout the summer and can't wait to turn yoga into a pre-swift-watching 🐥 event in September when the famous swifts roost at the Chapman Elementary chimney. This has been a dream of mine for YEARS! The journey to get here has been looooong friends; including but not limited to: the pandemic and cancelled sold-out retreats, the creation and dissolution of a yoga retreat business, hours in therapy processing "not enough-ness," and employers telling me I could never do this.

Burnout. That's the gist of why I've been so quiet on this platform this year.

In the past 6 months, lots of lessons were learned (some several times over), skills acquired (I can teach kids yoga now!), and places visited (Cubs Spring Training! Korea!). There were many moments when I thought I really ought to post here... but it just didn't happen. Instead of falling victim to all-or-nothing thinking and throwing in the towel for good, I'm here, simply beginning again.

The very first Yoga Sutra 1.1 is Atha yoga-anushashaanam and translates to, "And now the exposition of Yoga is being made" (Satchidananda). Each of the thousands of translations emphasizes the nowness or present moment - that our practice begins here, it is now, and now, and now. Each moment is an opportunity to start once again.

So now, here I am! Portland has transitioned from winter to an early summer. My schedule is more aligned working with people that excite and value me and I have some very exciting projects in the works that I'm thrilled to share with you. Hi 👋🏻, I'm Galen and I'm about 9 years late in writing an intro post!

I am a yoga and movement teacher specializing in trauma-informed and accessible practices with nearly a decade of experience. I've taught yoga in studios, gyms, offices, and outpatient facilities, to students with disabilities, trauma survivors, professional athletes, children, and more; managed successful yoga studios; and graduated from a handful of yoga teacher trainings. I pride myself in being a lifelong student with years of yoga, music, dance, strength, and endurance training, allowing me to teach from various modalities. My hope is always to share shapes, breathing techniques, meditations, and philosophy in a way that students walk away with tools to feel good in their bodies and calm in their minds.

When I'm not teaching yoga, training personal clients, or managing NOW Yoga, you can find me hanging out with my amazing husband and our 2 kitties 😻🐈‍⬛, eating my way through Portland's awesome food scene 😋, and dreaming up my next travel adventure.
