For World Asthma Day, asthma experts are sharing their unique clinical perspective on the treatment of asthma.

Allergists, pediatricians and other clinicians with a Vivacare Patient Education Toolkit are publishing their own “Tips & Wisdom” on asthma medications, asthma management and new approaches to asthma care.

William Berger, MD FAAAAI FACAAI who serves as Medical Director of Allergy & Asthma Network shares his professional perspective on several asthma topics including the need to treat asthma in a step-wise approach based on the person’s asthma severity. “Asthma is classified in four levels. These asthma severity levels provide the basis for stepwise management of the disease. The primary goal of the stepwise approach is to get your asthma to the lowest classification possible.”

Los Angles allergist Dr. Alan Khadavi provides his perspective on new therapeutics for the treatment of asthma, including Biologics and JAK Inhibitors. “Janus kinase inhibitors for asthma should be clinically useful for multiple types of asthma. An unmet need is for patients with severe asthma whose disease is poorly controlled despite using high dose inhaled steroids and it would be less expensive that biologics. Because JAK inhibitors have a completely different mechanism of action, they may be particularly effective in individuals with asthma resistant to steroids.”

Denver allergist Dr. Francine Andrews provides her Tips on creating a work and home environment that is free of allergens and thus reducing the risk of asthma attacks.

Vivacare invites its physicians to use the Vivacare platform to share their expertise and help them patients to better manage their care.

New Orleans area dermatologist Dr. Jeffrey Poole of Poole Dermatology shares his perspective on the use of biologics for the treatment of psoriasis.

"Biologics are the most recent advances in the treatment of psoriasis, though they have been in use in the U.S. for nearly 14 years. "Biologics were initially considered 2nd line agents, but can now be considered 1st line therapy for severe, diffuse or resistant cases of psoriasis. These drugs include such tongue-twisting names as infliximab, etanercept, adalimumab, and ustekinumab.

Biologics should be considered when someone has psoriasis that is limiting their daily life in terms of function or psychosocially."

Dermatologist Dr. Eliot Mostow of Akron Dermatology at White Pond
share his professional approach to treatment via Vivacare.

I like to tell my psoriasis patients that we are living in an era that offers alot more effective treatment options for what used to be a huge “hassle” to manage.

So called “biologic” therapy describes another systemic treatment option for psoriasis. Biologics suppress inflammation that patients experience as red and flaking areas of skin. Biologics also decrease the inflammation that can lead to the form of arthritis that often accompanies psoriasis (psoriatic arthritis).

I encourage my patients with psoriasis to utilize the resources on our website or go directly to the National Psoriasis Foundation to learn more about their disease and treatment options. Then we can work together to balance the benefit and risks associated with these treatment and make a decision that is good for them."

The Vivacare Service

Vivacare is about helping medical professionals help their patients.

Physicians are increasingly frustrated with the rapid pace of clinical practice, the distractions of technology and decreased face time with their patients. Meanwhile, patients often feel that their questions go unanswered and ill equipped to manage their care. Sure they can go online and look up health information on Google or WebMD, but what does their doctor think?

Vivacare makes it easy for clinicians to deliver resources that they know will educate and support their patients.

Patients receive health information from the source they trust most, their own doctor, leading to improved clinical care and patient satisfaction.
