April 2026
with .emilfarb .brookefleurent &

A little glimpse into our upcoming BTT curriculum 👀

APPLIED ANATOMY
How is anatomy applied to our barre exercises? What muscles move the glutes in table top glute work? Which muscles flex the spine in abdominal work? You learn this in real time as we go through our sequencing & practice teaching then dig even deeper during your time with Physical Therapist & Barre Teacher, Dr. Brooke Fleurent.

ART OF VERBAL CUEING
Language is so important! How can you be clear and concise while teaching your sequence? How do you keep your students safe while teaching in a large group fitness setting? We help you dissect this and put it into action while practice teaching.

HANDS ON ASSISTS
How intentional hands on assists can help your students integrate and understand the purpose behind the movement. Learn how to be confident while giving hands on assists as well as understanding consent while teaching your barre classes.

SEQUENCING, MUSICALITY, & THEMING
How do you ensure you are teaching beyond choreography? How do you add depth and purpose to your barre sequence? Learn how to teach a balanced barre class that leaves your students feeling empowered and successful. Can you do this all with the guidance of a fun and kick ass playlist? Yes!

PRACTICE TEACHING
We carve out plenty of time for practice teaching during our training. By the end of training, you will have sequenced, created a playlist, and taught an entire sequence. Don’t worry - we take this step by step and are here to support the process!

PERI-NATAL BARRE AND INJURY VARIATIONS
How do we make our barre classes an inclusive as possible? Again, Physical Therapist & Barre Teacher, Brooke Fleurent steps in here! She will ensure that you feel confident teaching a group barre class with a variety of students in it!

& more!….

MUTUAL AID MONDAY

The Locker Project

The Locker Project connects food-insecure children in Maine with nourishing food to improve their learning capacity, health and future. They take a whole-family approach to child hunger with programs that strive to be low-barrier, stigma-free and environmentally responsible. They work to reach kids from birth through high school and adapt their program model for different age ranges. Their programs help reduce financial and emotional stress for families, stretching weekly food budgets while making nourishing food easily available.

With the help of 150+ volunteers, they share nearly 12,000 pounds of food with families each week. At least 80% is fresh food (whole fruits and vegetables, meat, bread, and more). They also offer staples like rice, soup, and beans that help families make nourishing meals. Their program models are unusual in that we partner with schools and other family-focused agencies to reach children, honoring and supporting the relationships school and agency social workers have built with individual families and communities.

The past month we got to work first hand with Orange Bike Brewing to collect food donations for The Locker Project. The drive was incredibly successful & we feel so lucky to have these organizations working so hard locally for our neighbors. They are doing amazing things - support the how you can!

PYP DOWNTOWN

$25 or FREE for unlimited members

The Arc Flow is a 2-hour yoga class designed to move you through a full arc of practice—from dynamic movement and focused breathwork to deep, supported rest.

We’ll begin with a steady, breath-centered vinyasa flow designed to warm the body, build strength, and create spaciousness, physically and mentally. Expect intentional sequencing, adaptable challenge, and space to explore both effort and ease. Pranayama will be woven throughout the practice to support focus, nervous system regulation, and a deeper connection to your breath and body. We’ll close with long-held, restorative postures, fully supported with props, allowing time to slow down, integrate, and reset.

Open to all levels. Come ready to move, breathe, and rest deeply.

Last night, we held our all staff meeting with this crew!

To see (almost) the entire PYP staff in the same room was pretty wild. The see how much we’ve grown over the years is surreal.

With almost 90 classes/week, endless workshops & events, trainings, and rentals we often have collectively well over 100 people filtering in and out of our studio spaces at any given time.

That is hundreds of “hello’s”, “thank you’s”, “to the left of the wallpaper is the barre room”, “which class are you here for?”, MBO transactions, etc… before and after classes…

This couldn’t be possible without this crew. Each of them brings so much care, kindness, passion, humor to the studio, our students, and the ethos of PYP.

Thank you PYP mangers, teachers, and desk staff! You are the ones that keep this ship moving forward. We are so incredibly grateful for each of you!!

With so much love,
Elizabeth & Jess

From Minnesota to Maine, we have spent our time witnessing the inhumane treatment of our neighbors, co-workers, families, and friends by 🧊. There isn’t a person in our Portland community who hasn’t been touched by the fear, violence, and injustice of this moment.

As is calling for all service industry businesses to close on Friday in solidarity, to a call from Minnesota for a national strike, our managerial staff has decided to offer all of our classes on Friday January 30th for free.

We want to extend a special invitation to service workers, whose work makes this city run. We want to create embodied experiences where folks can resource themselves, so that we can sharpen our revolutionary imagination.

As we care for those most affected with action and intention, we encourage everyone to remember that we endure this moment with the dream of a better world, one that prioritizes the safety and fulfillment of all people.

In addition to our free classes at both locations on Friday, Victoria is also holing her grief evening.
