April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month—a time to recognize the millions of individuals and families navigating Parkinson’s disease and to highlight the importance of understanding, support, and compassionate care.

At Touchmark, we support those living with Parkinson’s through a variety of programs and services. Our communities offer Parkinson’s-focused exercise classes to support strength, balance, and mobility, along with support groups for individuals and their loved ones, social opportunities, and wellness resources. Touchmark team members also receive training to better understand Parkinson’s and its impact on daily life, helping ensure residents and families feel supported throughout the community experience.

Through education, thoughtful care, and a strong sense of community, we are committed to helping residents continue living full, engaged lives. This month—and every month—we stand with those affected by Parkinson’s and celebrate the resilience and determination they bring to our communities.

Today, we honor all the veterans who call Touchmark home—and those across our nation—whose courage, service, and sacrifice protect the freedoms we cherish.

This Veterans Day, we’re especially proud to share the story of Touchmark resident and U.S. Navy Veteran Ken Cumings, whose 25-year career reflects the strength and resilience found in so many who’ve served.

Tomorrow is Veterans Day, and we’re honored to celebrate Touchmark in the West Hills resident veteran Ken Cumings, whose story was featured today on KATU News. A retired U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander, Ken served for 25 years—first as a Russian linguist and cryptologic specialist, later commanding a Naval Security Group Activity in Connecticut and supporting the launch of Tomahawk cruise missiles.

Ken received a Quilt of Valor at Touchmark in 2019, one of many handcrafted red, white, and blue quilts made by volunteers to honor veterans’ selfless service. His quilt now hangs proudly in his home, a daily reminder of those who never came home. Thank you, Ken, and all other veterans who have served our country.

Throwback to our WOW Wednesday this past week!

Touchmark in the West Hills Home Care team member, Becky Maples, has worked at Touchmark for over seven years. During this time, she has made more than 30 crochet blankets for the residents in health services neighborhoods. Crocheting is a passion of hers, and when she realized she could brighten and warm up the residents' day, she jumped at the opportunity, making them on her own time and surprising several residents over the years. She recently delivered a batch of 6 blankets to residents, bringing joy and warmth to them. When asked why she did it, she stated, "Because I love the residents, and it's just who I am". Becky is a true example of being an Ally, Friend, and Giver. Thank you, Becky!
