🌟 Happy National Volunteer Week! 🌟

This week, we celebrate the incredible people who give their time, energy, and heart to make a difference in our community.

From mentoring youth to tending healing gardens, every act of service matters. Volunteers help us create hope, support wellness, and build stronger connections for everyone we serve.

🙌 Thank you to all our volunteers—you make everything possible!

Imagine being a child and receiving a story written just for you.

“A young Filly carried heavy rocks her herd had always carried. One day, she discovered she could put them down.”

A therapist wrote this fable for one child at Trillium. It helped them see their personal challenge differently. 'I must carry this' became 'I can imagine freedom.'

That's the power of being heard.

"We found Trillium. He came away knowing that he was okay and that he was going to get through this. He had tools he could use."

This is why we do this work. Healing happens when children are heard, understood, and supported.

Most people don't know Trillium's legacy reaches back to the 1860s.

Parry Center for Children, Waverly Children's Home, and Children's Farm Home each spent over a century caring for Oregon's most vulnerable children.

In 1998, they stopped competing and started collaborating. That created Oregon's largest mental health provider for children.

The work isn't finished.

May 7th. Be part of what comes next.

Stories create connection.

Hearing someone else's story activates recognition: 'Me too.' That counters one of the most damaging beliefs people carry—that they're alone or uniquely flawed.

Shared stories build empathy, belonging, trust. All protective factors for mental well-being.

May 7th at the Loft at 8th Ave. Join us as we celebrate stories that change everything.

ONE MONTH until Every Story Lights a Brighter Future!

Stories and mental health are deeply connected.

When experiences feel chaotic, stories organize them. When feelings overwhelm, stories give them language. When we feel alone, stories remind us we're not.

🌱🌸 April is National Garden Month—a time to celebrate the power of green spaces to heal, connect, and grow community.

Our Healing Gardens are special places where patients, families, and staff can step outside, take a breath, and find a moment of peace. These spaces thrive thanks to the care of dedicated volunteers who help plant, maintain, and nurture them throughout the season.

🌿 Want to lend a hand? We’re looking for volunteers to help care for our Healing Gardens—whether you’re an experienced gardener or just love spending time outdoors.

Together, we can keep these spaces blooming for everyone who needs them. 💚

🏃‍♂️🦇 A beautiful day for a 5K! 🦇🏃‍♀️

Yesterday, our staff, clients and families showed up and made it a great day. There were Batman-themed costumes, music, snacks, and a fun finish line.

Thanks to everyone who ran, cheered, and made it special!

In addition, we also got new bikes for our Young Adult Programs.

🚶‍♀️ National Walking Day is a reminder that even a simple step can make a big difference—for our physical health, mental well-being, and our communities.

This spring, you can take those steps with purpose at the Out of the Darkness Walks, supporting su***de prevention and mental health awareness through the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention. These events bring students, staff, and community members together to share hope, honor loved ones and raise funds for lifesaving programs.

📍 Upcoming walks:
• Oregon State University Out of the Darkness Campus Walk – Saturday, April 18 at 10 AM. Start at OSU’s Student Experience Center Plaza in Corvallis
• University of Oregon Out of the Darkness Campus Walk – Saturday, May 2 at 10 AM. Start at the EMU Green in Eugene
• NAMI Walk – Saturday, May 16 at 11 AM at Peninsula Park in Portland
• More walks in September and October!

Every step helps spark conversations, reduce stigma, and remind people they’re not alone. 💜

👟 This National Walking Day, consider signing up and joining our team, or supporting a walker at one of these events.

🌟 Today is Transgender Day of Visibility 🌟

Founded in 2009 by Rachel Crandall-Crocker to highlight positive, living stories of the community, countering the focus on violence often found in media.

Visibility matters — especially in mental health. Studies show that nearly half of transgender and nonbinary youth seriously consider su***de, and transgender adults experience significantly higher rates of depression and anxiety than the general population. These disparities are driven by stigma, discrimination, and lack of affirming support — not by identity itself.

Affirming, inclusive mental health care can be life-saving. Today and every day, let’s uplift transgender voices, reduce stigma, and help create safer, more supportive spaces for all.
