Have you ever been defined by a label that didn’t fully capture who you are?

“The Than, More Than, I Am” by Kendall Konnick (.konick) a powerful personal story about identity, neurodiversity, and reframing assumptions.

Kendall is a first-year Cultural Anthropology student at the University of California, Davis, an advocate who has faced and challenged stereotypes about dyslexia, autism, and dysgraphia throughout their life. From being misunderstood in childhood to graduating valedictorian and now building community and advocacy on campus, Kendall’s story shows that our differences aren’t deficits — they are strengths.

In Part 2 of our series on Disability & AI, we explore the ‘speedbumps’ in the code. When algorithms are trained on ‘scraped’ data, they often view the nuances of disability—like a non-standard speech pattern or a mobility aid—as a ‘glitch’ rather than a human reality. 📲

“I believe we have to look past the grid. We can’t fix a broken story just by polishing the prose; we have to go back to the bones of the plot and ensure the logic is internally consistent for everyone.” - Mitch Blatt, Editor in Chief for The Understanding 🌎

Our Editor in Chief for The Understanding Digital, Mitch Blatt, recently sat down with the team at to talk about more than just beer. The establishment is a masterclass in building a ‘Deaf Ecosystem’—a space where accessibility isn’t an afterthought, but the foundation. 🍻

From local food vendors to the historic ‘Huddle’ at Gallaudet University right down the street, this story explores what happens when a community builds a world that actually includes them. 🌎
