Scott Hatley, Pia Gilgen, and Eugene Wallace (INCIGHT Board Member) recently Reversed their Perspectives during a visit to the . They had the opportunity to attend the opening of the David Hockney’s exhibition, which features an impressive selection of works from the collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation.

As an artist with a disability, David Hockney adapts new technology in his mediums and processes, leveraging his strengths and expressing his ideas.

We encourage everyone to visit the Portland Art Museum to experience this vibrant art firsthand. INCIGHT’s work centers on sharing and learning from diverse perspectives—an idea that strongly resonates with David Hockney’s belief that “perspective should be reversed.”

INCIGHT Communications Manager, JD Duran, talks about how setting goals is like running a race. Many take the steps to begin that race, but fall short when finishing on a high-note, or don’t finish at all.

“What inspired me to write this piece was the time of year we’re in. It’s still Q1, February to be exact, but setting goals can happen at any point. I know people can tend to stray away from their goals they made in the new year (even myself). But I love winning, and in general I enjoy seeing others win as well. There’s actions that can take place in order for that to happen.” - JD Duran

Make it a goal, and learn how you can win your race by checking out our newest story from The Understanding Digital in the Linktree on our Instagram bio, or linked below:

🚧 What if one design change could benefit everyone?

The Curb-Cut Effect shows us exactly that. What began as an accessibility solution for wheelchair users transformed into a universal benefit — helping parents with strollers, travelers with luggage, delivery drivers, cyclists, and more.

This type of design isn’t a niche concept. It’s smart, forward-thinking innovation.
In our latest article, we explore how accessibility improvements ripple outward — strengthening communities, workplaces, and systems for all.

And the conversation doesn’t stop there. 👇
At the bottom of the article, you’ll also find a powerful companion piece featuring INCIGHT Scholar Jada Yang, who shares how advocacy, leadership, and digital accessibility continue to push this movement forward.

Together, these stories highlight an important truth:
So much great work has been done and there is still more we can accomplish.

Have you ever been defined by a label that didn’t fully capture who you are?

“The Than, More Than, I Am” by Kendall Konick (.konick) a powerful personal story about identity, neurodiversity, and reframing assumptions.

Kendall is a first-year Cultural Anthropology student at the University of California, Davis, an advocate who has faced and challenged stereotypes about dyslexia, autism, and dysgraphia throughout their life. From being misunderstood in childhood to graduating valedictorian and now building community and advocacy on campus, Kendall’s story shows that our differences aren’t deficits — they are strengths.

In Part 2 of our series on Disability & AI, we explore the ‘speedbumps’ in the code. When algorithms are trained on ‘scraped’ data, they often view the nuances of disability—like a non-standard speech pattern or a mobility aid—as a ‘glitch’ rather than a human reality. 📲

“I believe we have to look past the grid. We can’t fix a broken story just by polishing the prose; we have to go back to the bones of the plot and ensure the logic is internally consistent for everyone.” - Mitch Blatt, Editor in Chief for The Understanding 🌎
