“I learned to read a syringe before I could read a book.” 💉📖

INCIGHT Scholar Bliss Louvar shares how living with Type 1 Diabetes trained her to treat data as instinct—a skill she now uses as an Earth and Environmental Science researcher at the University of Utah.

From managing 650 mg/dL blood sugar to crushing 26.2-mile marathons, Bliss is redefining what it means to lead with empathy and “badass” adaptability.

We’ve identified the ‘Averages Trap’ and the ‘Speedbumps’ in the code. Now, it’s time to talk about the Blueprints.

Text: In the final part of my series on Disability & AI, I’m exploring how we move from being ‘scraped’ data points to becoming the architects of our own digital future.

True innovation isn’t just about smarter algorithms—it’s about Digital Sovereignty. It’s about:
🔹 Inclusive Data: Overwhelming the system with the ‘truth’ of our diverse voices and movements.
🔹 Human-in-the-Loop: Ensuring lived experience is the final check on automated logic.
🔹 Nothing About Us Without Us: Ensuring the disability community isn’t just a ‘user group,’ but has a seat at the proverbial “drafting table” for the digital landscape.

From Project Understood to The Voice Keeper, the tools for a more observant world are already being built. We just need to ensure the community holds the pen.
