For those who have kept my plants company these last many years, I finally caught glimpse of a bloom from my night-blooming cereus! Night-blooming cereus typically bloom once a year at night and only for a few hours. I’ve been growing these clippings from my great-great-grandmother’s plant in my office the last few years. I finally brought her home and she bloomed the evening of Summer Solstice!

Labor day is behind us, which means we are back in the swing of things here at my office! It feels great to be back and hear about everyone's summer adventures and life updates. The air conditioner is on full blast this week, my plants are growing very well, and tourist season in Portland is beginning to slow down. Your relaxing massage oasis awaits!

A thoughtful client sent me this article and I thought I'd pass it along to you. It explains a method of relaxing that might be useful on the massage table, and in life in general!

Letting the tension flow out of your muscles can improve your physical and mental well-being.

I sent this announcement out by email today:

After a successful "soft opening" last week, my massage practice is open again for booking appointments.

As you can imagine, sessions will look a bit different. It is important that you read my COVID-19 Protocols (https://www.kendallhinkley.com/covid19) before scheduling an appointment. If you have questions or would like to discuss further, feel free to reach out.

Massage may not feel right for you yet, and that is valid. I respect your decision to stay home. For those who feel healthy and ready, please contact me directly to schedule by phone, text, or email. Online booking is not yet up and running.

Because we are still living amidst a pandemic, things are subject to change at any time. I will keep you updated. Thank you for your understanding, patience, feedback and support.

I don't know what the future holds, but I do know that when humans work together, we can achieve great things.

Be well and maybe see you soon!

Kendall

How are you doing? May is upon us, and we are finding ourselves in a very different world than we expected two months ago.

As you are probably aware, Governor Mills announced last week that massage therapy services are tentatively allowed to re-open on July 1, 2020. Though I am preparing to re-open at this time, I will not be taking bookings until closer to that date in case the date changes. I'll announce by email when bookings are available again, and I will personally reach out to any clients whose appointments were compromised due to the statewide shutdown.

In the mean time, please feel free to reach out with any questions or friendly updates. When the time comes, I look forward to re-opening my practice and serving you again.

Due to the potential spread of COVID-19, booking has been temporarily suspended as of Monday and will resume as soon as it is advisable to do so. When this has passed, I will be here to massage the stress away! Stay safe out there.

What is the best part about being a massage therapist so far?

It isn't the fancy oils.
Or the training.
Or all the fun you can have decorating your office.
(Which is very fun).
Or even the friends you make along the way.
(Of which there have been many).
And it isn't even the profound shift you can witness in another body just by the trusty work of your own two hands.
(But let me tell you, this is a close second).

The best part about being a massage therapist so far, for me, is the opportunity I just got to work on two of my very best high school friends while they took photos of each other with me in a casual photo shoot, in my office, doing what I love.

I mean, I know that sounds like lots of fun, but why is that the best part?

Because... my career being a massage therapist is easily the most gratifying, life-altering, and mind-shifting move I've made in the game of life. I have come to know my own body in an entirely new way, kind of like a tuning fork or compass, reading, listening, studying -- a far cry from how I used to see my body, something that needed fixing or changing.

My journey has been deeply personal, profoundly awakening, and frustratingly hard and lonely at times, too.

It was initially scary to learn how to touch another person. It was vulnerable, intense, rich. I chose to start my business early, and faced some dark nights with little money and lots of thoughts.

I was pulled into the world of massage because of a desire to help others in the way I had been helped. I had no idea the journey it would bring me on, who I would meet, the things I would learn, the blocks I would face, the places I would go...

To get to share my sacred space with two people I love, taking photos from our smart phones and listening to Backstreet Boys' new album (they're back!), and then going to Ruskies for lunch... that, my friends, is the perfect work day.

Deepest gratitude to my dear friends Casey Hooper and Ryan Gipson for their photography skills, joyful company and loving support. You guys totally made my day.

It is one thing to figure out how to manifest the website dwelling in your imagination. It is entirely another thing to put your own words out there for the world to see. Whew!

Without further ado, I present to you… my new website!

For any clients or interested clients -- I would love for you to check it out, and pass it along to anyone who you’ve been meaning to tell about my massage practice. Sincerest thanks to YOU!

Special thanks to Beth Fitzgerald of MaggPress LLC for totally nailing the aesthetic and for being such a breeze to work with.

Our Story

The body knows...

When we are anxious, the body knows. When we don't feel our best, the body knows. When we are wanting something and unsure of how to get it, the body knows. The body is whispering answers to our problems all of the time.

The body contains vast reservoirs of wisdom gathered from our entire life. The more we slow down and study its nuanced, delicate language, the more answers we find.

The brain stores this knowledge, using words and concepts gathered along our journey. But the body... the body knows that which exists beyond words. We can spend our lives unraveling its answers and still there will be more to learn.
