C-sections can be life-saving, but they’re becoming more common than ever — about 32% of all births in the U.S. are now surgical.
At Alma, our approach focuses on balance and support.
In 2024, 15% of our clients planning a birth center birth required a C-section, and so far in 2025, that number has dropped to 13% for those who began labor in our birth center. 🌿
These rates align with World Health Organization goals (10–15%), the ideal range for safe, supported birth.
We also know that C-section rates are higher among women of color, especially Black and Indigenous parents — a reminder of why equitable, person-centered care matters.
