Swipe to read about this recent large scale study on water birth safety ➡️

Midwives often recommend waterbirth because warm water can support comfort, mobility, and relaxation. Still, many parents wonder, “Will staying in the water harm the baby during birth?”

A large UK study conducted by POOL found that giving birth in water did not increase risks for birthing parents or babies.

The study found no increase in adverse outcomes for parents or babies. This is meaningful given that current NICE guidelines cite insufficient high-quality evidence to either support or discourage waterbirth. A validating moment for midwives, as research continues to affirm practices rooted in physiologic care.

Your wide smile & curiosity charmed me today! The arc of hearing the fetal heartbeat, witnessing the first breath and getting a glimpse of their personality is a true gift.

Every year on their birthday, this Alma “baby” has visited us and gifted flowers! They are a Reed student interested in International Studies. An impressive youth! We often wonder what these tiny, slick, naked newborns are going to do with their lives, and it is an honor to be remembered 19 years after that umbilical cord was snipped. Thanks for the visit! 💛🥹🎊
