Anxiety, Phobias, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in kids can show up in big ways and leave families spiraling. Being parents ourselves we get that we can’t always prevent our kids from struggling, but we can give them the skills to thrive in the face of life's challenges. With skill building through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), we empower kids and parents to build a robust toolbox of science-backed strategies to conquer fears and reclaim their lives from anxiety and OCD. If You're Feeling Stuck Call Us, We Can Help

If you're feeling stuck us a call, we can help. At our practice, we focus on providing kids with the skills they need to manage life's challenges successfully. The therapy we provide focuses on teaching children to be aware of their own emotions, to notice and critically evaluate their thoughts and to employ adaptive behavioral strategies, mindfulness, and other self-soothing skills to help themselves remain grounded in difficult situations rather than getting swept away by worry or big emotions. Our team is playful, energetic, and collaborative, always finding fun, developmentally-appropriate ways to personalize treatment and connect with kids. We care deeply about helping families thrive and getting kids back to the stuff they care about. Parents Need Support Too

Parents need support too! The family environment is an important factor in children's behaviors and emotions. We get that anxiety not only bosses kids around but will often boss the whole family. Parents, we want to make life easier and so we offer both parenting group sessions and 1:1 parent consultation to provide you with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to support your child effectively. We’re here to help your family move forward with confidence.

We’re excited to announce that a Facility Dog will be joining the Raising Brave Kids team this March! This professional pup will work alongside Handler Jessica Munyon, LCSW, to help children and teens feel calm, safe, and supported during therapy.

Facility Dogs aren’t just cute, they are trained to provide emotional safety, engagement, and confidence-building in the therapy room. While they are still dogs, they are always “on the job” while in their working vest, and your cooperation helps them do their best work.

✨ Meet & Greet: Sunday, March 8

At Raising Brave Kids, our studio space was built for connection — groups, workshops, and collaborations that truly support kids and families.

We’re excited to share one of our newest partnerships with Sprouted Roots Wellness, a local PNW speech-language team for kids. This week they kicked off a 6-week, play-based speech-language group in our space, focused on helping young kids build communication, self-advocacy, and connection. We love getting to support more families through thoughtful collabs like this. ✨

OCD doesn’t always look like anxiety. Sometimes it shows up as “good behavior,” perfectionism, or school refusal.

I joined The OCD Whisperer Podcast to unpack how childhood OCD actually shows up, what parents often miss, and how it can quietly start running the whole family — plus effective ways to disrupt the cycle.

Therapy isn’t magic. It’s skills + practice + support. And it can change everything.

The goal isn’t “no anxiety.” It’s a kid who knows what to do when worry shows up… and has practiced standing up to the “what ifs” with real confidence.

At RBK, we’ve seen the viral punch card trend and love it as a practical tool for kids and teens. At our team meeting, we made our own to support self-care in the new year!

Behavior doesn’t change without a plan. Small, consistent actions are what help healthy habits stick.

We’re excited to use this approach with kiddos to turn goals into doable steps that build confidence and momentum.

We’re currently accepting new individual therapy clients in Portland, Oregon & California and enrolling for our 2026 groups. Learn more or get started at raisingbravekids.com

More than half of children with tics or body-focused repetitive behaviors show meaningful improvement with Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT).

CBIT helps children with Tourette Syndrome tics, hair-pulling, skin-picking, nail-biting, and related behaviors by building awareness, reducing urges, and strengthening daily regulation skills. Research shows these tools can lead to lasting change well beyond treatment.

Katherine “Kat” Schoolland, MS, LMFT, Clinical Director, is trained in CBIT and currently offers support and consultations for children whose needs can be hard to place.

Our Story

Katherine "Kat" Schoolland is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (Lic#103337) whose passion is to assist children and teens into the fullest of mental health. She is also devoted to partnering with parents to optimize family functioning.

Kat currently is a clinician at Practice San Francisco where she provides individual therapy to kids and teens teaching them skills to help them thrive. At Practice San Francisco Kat uses evidence-based treatment strategies, and primarily adheres to a cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) model. This type of treatment approach has been supported by a great deal of research as the treatment of choice for childhood anxiety and depression. CBT focuses on teaching children/teens to be aware of their own emotions, to notice and critically evaluate their thoughts (i.e., learn to think about WHAT you’re thinking, and to check whether those thoughts are accurate or helpful!), and to employ adaptive behavioral strategies, mindfulness, and other self-soothing skills to help themselves remain grounded in difficult situations rather than getting swept away by worry or big emotions.
