Helen Mildred Burke, 96 years old, longtime Portsmouth resident passed away on February 3, 2026. She began her earthly journey with a spirit full of warmth, kindness, and creativity that touched the lives of everyone she met. Helen, a devoted homemaker, found joy in the simplest of pleasures-reading, sewing, knitting, cross-stitching, and crocheting. Her hands crafted beauty, not only in her cherished creations but also in the loving memories she wove together with family and friends.

In 1945, Helen married her true love, Ray J. Burke, with whom she shared 47 wonderful years filled with love, laughter, and countless family adventures. Together, they nurtured a loving home in Portsmouth, Ohio, where she left a legacy of warmth. After Ray's passing in 1998, Helen continued to embrace life with grace, dedicating herself to her family.

She is survived by her two sons, John "David" (Ruth) Burke of Jackson, and Patrick Burke of Portsmouth, daughter, Sally (Ted) Rath of Canton, three grandchildren: Megan (Dan) Slavik, Allison (Justin Black) Rath and Michael Rath, and three great grandchildren: Annie, Sophie and James Slavik.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Martin and Mildred (nee Moore) Murphy, husband Ray J. Burke, and two brothers, John and Mac Murphy.

Helen's joy also blossomed in the company of friends, often sharing lively evenings filled with laughter at the dinner table or engaging in spirited games of bridge. She held a special place in her heart for family vacations to Hilton Head, South Carolina, where memories of sunlit days and joyful gatherings would forever echo.

A devoted member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church, Helen's faith was a guiding light throughout her life, inspiring those around her with her compassion and kindness.
