Harold "Pud" Newsom, 80, peacefully passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2025. He

was born January 17, 1945. He was a 1963 graduate of South Webster High School.

After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served until 1969.

That same year, he married his bride, Judith, to whom he was married for 42 years until

her passing.

He had a career as a conductor for the Norfolk Southern Railroad. He enjoyed going to

flea markets, fishing, and watching football. He had a great love for his dogs through the

years.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Judith, of 42 years; three brothers, Howard,

Charles, and Lowell; one sister, Helen Spence; and his parents, Luther and Ethel

Newsom.

Harold is survived by his only child, Joan (Christopher) Jones of Parrish, Florida; three

grandsons, Christian Jones of Delaware, Ohio, Jourdan (Su) Jones of Corning, New

York, and Vincent Jones of Parrish, Florida. He is also survived by two sisters, Margaret

Lathrop and Ann Holback, both of Wheelersburg, Ohio; two brothers, Arthur "Bill"

(Patricia) Newsom of South Webster, Ohio, and Glenn (Norma) Newsom of Springfield,

Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 27, 2025 from 1:00-2:00 PM.

Funeral service with Military Honors immediately following at 2:00 PM, located at Daehler Mortuary, 915 Ninth Street, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662.

Celebration-of-life meal will follow at Berean Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Daehler Mortuary or SOMC Hospice.

Frederick Athol Mershon, age 57, of West Portsmouth, Ohio, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025. Born on February 2, 1968, in Portsmouth, Ohio, Fred was a beloved son, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many throughout his journey.

A dedicated mason by trade, Fred spent many years honing his craft in the construction industry. His significant contributions to the community extended beyond Ohio; for twelve years, he thrived in Waco, Texas, where he proudly helped build Baylor University, leaving a lasting legacy in his work. In his younger years, he worked for notable companies such as Bob & Floyd's in Portsmouth and Mills Pride.

Fred was known for his warm heart and vibrant spirit. He had a passion for country music, often lifting the spirits of those around him with his singing and dancing. Fred never met a stranger; his kindness and infectious laughter drew people to him. He loved to tell jokes, bringing smiles and laughter to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. In addition to his jovial demeanor, he found joy in the tranquility of fishing.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Richard and Mary Frances (Nee Huff) Mershon, and two brothers, Gerald "Dee" and Raymond Mershon.

He is survived by, five brothers: Richard (Laura) Mershon of West Portsmouth, Steven Mershon of Waco, TX, Timothy (Teresa) Mershon of Obetz, OH, Dale (Vickie) Mershon of FL, Roger Mershon of West Portsmouth; two sisters, Rose (The Late Gary) McCoy of West Portsmouth, and Karen (Mike) Watkins of Grove City, and too many family and friends to mention.

Rhonda Potter, a beloved daughter, devoted family member, and compassionate soul, passed away on December 11, 2025, in Portsmouth, Ohio, at the age of 62. She was born on June 2, 1963, to Hazel Mann, who survives her. Rhonda's warmth and kindness touched everyone she met, and her spirit will forever remain etched in the hearts of her family and friends.

Rhonda had a deep love for her church, where she found solace and community. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and she cherished the relationships she built within the congregation. Above all, Rhonda was a family-oriented individual who found joy in spending quality time with her loved ones. She especially delighted in her cherished fur baby, Snowball, who brought endless joy and companionship into her life.

Rhonda is also survived by her aunts, Teresa Bragdon and Marsha Kelly, her uncle Bobb Whisman, and numerous cousins, including her special cousins Tammy Page and Robin Guilkey. She leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will be remembered by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents John and Pearl Whisman, aunts Lula Mae Whisman and Shirley Felty, uncles Tommy Whisman and Donald Whisman, and her beloved fur baby Snowball.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Rosemount Care Center and SOMC Hospice for the exceptional care and support provided to Rhonda throughout her journey. Their dedication made a significant difference in her life.

In accordance with Rhonda's wishes, no formal services will be held. However, family and friends are invited to remember and celebrate Rhonda's life in their hearts, sharing stories and memories that will keep her spirit alive.

Rhonda Potter will be deeply missed yet fondly remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
