Edmarc Unlike adult hospice, where life-saving treatment ceases and the end is certain, Edmarc offers hope. The minister's name was Edward; the boy's name was Marcus.

Established in 1978, Edmarc was the first hospice in the nation designed specifically for children. Edmarc is the only pediatric hospice organization in Hampton Roads. Edmarc was founded by the members of Suffolk Presbyterian Church in Suffolk, Virginia, along with their minister who was dying of cancer, and a young couple whose only son was dying of a progressive neuromuscular disease. The agency is named in their memory. In 1982, Edmarc Hospice for Children received a $300,000 grant from the Birthday Offering of the Presbyterian Women. This generous community gift funded the development and expansion of our hospice, home health care, and bereavement support services. Edmarc now serves a wide geographic area that includes the Virginia Peninsula and all of southside Hampton Roads.

💜If you’re looking for a picture of selfless love, look no further than the caregivers of Edmarc patients. Each and every day, these parents, grandparents, family members, and family friends revolve their lives around the care and needs of these precious children. The plans many of them made for the future have turned into the needs of the now, altering how they view life and what they hold truly important. Their sacrificial service is not performed for accolades but simply because it’s what needs to be done - all because the love they have for their children is endless.

💜This National Caregivers Day, we stand in awe of the families that endure through the struggles and rejoice in the wins. They know that hope is hard, especially when facing uncertainty, but choose to carry on because they are doing so guided by the unending love they hold for their child.

🎨Art can be a powerful way for children to express what words sometimes cannot — especially when they are navigating serious illness, grief, or big changes within their family. This semester, our art therapy intern is working closely with several of our patients and their siblings, creating safe, creative spaces where they can process emotions, build coping skills, and simply have moments of joy and normalcy.

The wrapped up our Santa deliveries this past weekend in style! The man himself, along with Rudolph, The Grinch, and a posey of bikers toured south Hampton Road bringing presents to three of our families. We’re so grateful to this group who shows up year after year to make the season a little brighter for these sweet kids.
