Flash update: it didn't happen the way we planned, but it happened nonetheless. She's home.
Also a story of the carrot versus the stick, and no we never had to use the stick. Or WHERE THERE'S A WILL, THERE'S A WAY
After a full day of "unable" to get out of bed, I "believed" that in & out of the truck then ascending the stairs to the house couldn't happen. So we ordered an ambulance ☹️.
When I got back to the hospital after 3PM mass, she was not dressed and ready for her ride as had been arranged. She said no one had come to help; they said she refused...
Well now it's time to go and she still wanted a shower there or here. Realizing "there" was easier, and with transport enroute; all the sudden your prayers hit, the fires got lit, and I got her in the shower! The nurses were amazed. I think she just wanted a shower before seeing the grandkids!
Shower done, loaded, and to the house. Strapped to a backboard up the stairs and in bed. Oh, what's this, CHRISTMAS COOKIES? She performed a magic trick and made two disappear in short order. Hospice nurse showed up for intake interview as PD & ambulance left.
(The PD showed up just because there was an ambulance in town he wasn't aware of. I let him know it was a delivery not a pickup, and paid both he and the EMT's with thick slices of Ms Wendy Brown's chocolate chip Bundt cake.)
Change of location, change of scenery, two Christmas cookies and a remarkable change of attitude! Up and out of bed twice to the bathroom in 2-1/2 hours; which is also 2 trips more than in any of the last four days.
Second trip rewarded with a cup of tea and slice of the aforementioned chocolate chip Bundt cake!
Now a nap before midnight mass online from the Norfolk Basilica!
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
