📝 What students wish teachers knew: Sometimes it’s not about being lazy or unmotivated. Behind the quiet, the mistakes, or the missed assignments, there can be anxiety, stress, or things going on at home. A little understanding, patience, and support can make a huge difference. 💙

📚 Back to school isn’t just about books and supplies. It’s about mental health, confidence, and preparing for the future. Being ready for school means having the tools to manage stress, build healthy habits, and take steps toward your career goals.

At OCC, programs like Thrive Tribe help students build confidence and emotional wellness, while Sprout Society creates space for growth, connection, and real-life skill building.

They also offer tutoring sessions in reading and math, helping students strengthen academic skills while boosting confidence and supporting overall mental well-being in school. Together, these programs support young people in showing up ready, not just academically, but mentally and emotionally.

Hi, I’m Kirra.

Something I don’t talk about often—I was diagnosed with Bipolar I Disorder in 2020. Since then, I’ve made it a priority to practice intentional self-care and stay consistent with mood-boosting habits that support my stability and growth.

I’ve been fortunate to have strong family support, meaningful friendships, and a career ( James Bentley Treatment Program, Methadone Clinic, and 2.5/3.1 IOP and PHP) that allows me to pour into others—things I don’t take for granted. I also recognize that many individuals living with mental health diagnoses don’t have that same level of support.

That’s part of why I’m choosing to be more open.

Moving forward, I’ll be sharing what I do daily to stay grounded, focused, and thriving—real strategies that you can apply in your own life.

At Ollivier Community Circle, we’re also launching a discussion board where you can connect, ask questions, and receive guidance from licensed professionals, including LPCs and LCSWs.

I used to feel hesitant sharing my story—but if my experience can help even one person feel seen, supported, or encouraged to seek help, it’s worth it.

You don’t have to navigate this alone. Support is available. 🤍

Did you know? Virginia’s position in the 2025 State of Mental Health in America report has dropped from 12th to 22nd place. This shift suggests that more residents may be facing mental health challenges—from stress and anxiety to depression and beyond.

At Ollivier Community Circle (OCC), we recognize that addressing this crisis takes more than awareness—it takes action. Through programs like Thrive Tribe, which supports youth in building confidence and emotional wellness, and Sprout Society, which nurtures growth, connection, and life skills, we are creating spaces where individuals can heal, grow, and succeed.

Mental health is a community issue, and investing in supportive, accessible programs now can make a lasting difference for thousands of Virginians.
