We love celebrating our team! Meet Katie — a dedicated personal trainer and CrossFit Alpha Pack member who helps our members crush their goals every day. At The SOMC LIFE Center, there’s something for every age and every fitness need!
1. Give me a background on yourself
Hi, I’m Katie Fulk! I’m 32 and live on a small farm with my husband, our 6-year-old daughter, and our little crew of animals—cows, chickens, quail, our sweet dog Ellie, our cat King, and Tot the hamster. I work part-time as a personal trainer at the LC, which lets me combine my love of fitness with helping others. When I’m not at the gym, you’ll usually find me outside soaking up the fresh air or elbow-deep in a home renovation or DIY project. And on the rare occasions I’m sitting still, there’s a good chance I have a book in one hand and a list of ideas for my next big project in the other.
2. What got you started with CrossFit Alpha Pack?
I joined CrossFit Alpha Pack about four years ago, looking for something to challenge me, get me out of the house, and help me stay consistent with my workouts so I could lose weight. At the time, I was a full-time stay-at-home mom struggling to find motivation and stick to any fitness routine. I knew I needed to make my health a priority, but nothing seemed to really stick.
I’d been trying group fitness classes at the LC and doing home workouts here and there, but nothing felt consistent or sustainable. I even tried CrossFit at another gym before, but quit after just a few months.
Everything changed when I took a group fitness class at the LC led by one of the Alpha Pack coaches—Coach E. She was so kind and welcoming, and that class gave me just enough confidence to try CrossFit again. I was anxious about giving it another shot, but I didn’t let that fear stop me. I took the leap and signed up.
And I’m so thankful I did. CrossFit didn’t just help me build consistency or lose weight—it changed the entire trajectory of my life. It transformed my mental health, gave me a new sense of purpose, and completely reshaped how I see myself.
3. How has CrossFit impacted your life?
There isn’t a single part of my life that CrossFit hasn’t impacted in a positive way. When I first started, I was focused on trying to be small and honestly didn’t have the healthiest relationship with exercise. I felt like I had to work out just to fit some mold society placed on people—to be a certain size. But CrossFit completely shifted my mindset. Now, I’m not chasing “skinny” or “small” anymore. I’m focused on being healthy, strong, and feeling balanced—mentally, emotionally, and physically.
CrossFit has made me healthier, stronger, and so much more confident. It’s also helped me reduce my anxiety in a way that has truly changed my daily life. Because of this transformation, I’m a better mom and wife. I have the energy and resilience to keep up with my family—especially our lively six-year-old—and I carry myself with a confidence I never had before. Most importantly, I’m proud to show my daughter that women can be strong, powerful, and capable of amazing things. It’s about breaking stereotypes and redefining what strength really looks like. Our gym is full of incredible men and women who inspire me every single day, and I’m so grateful I can give my daughter that gift of strength and empowerment.
My journey with CrossFit has also taught me that fitness isn’t a short-term goal—it’s a lifelong commitment. I want to pass that mindset on to my daughter, showing her that caring for your body is about strength, health, and confidence at every stage of life. It’s not about fitting into a particular size or shape but about feeling good, staying active, and embracing what your body can do. By modeling this positive, balanced approach to fitness, I hope to give her the tools and mindset to build a healthy relationship with exercise that lasts a lifetime.
CrossFit even inspired me to change my career. As a stay-at-home mom, I found a new sense of purpose and passion. The transformation I experienced motivated me to become a personal trainer so I could help others feel as empowered as I do. It’s been an incredible journey—from fitness newbie to trainer—and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to help others change their lives, too.
If you’d told me a few years ago that I’d become a personal trainer and have the confidence to compete in CrossFit competitions—and even podium in a few—I probably would have laughed. But here I am, beyond blessed that I took the leap and didn’t let my anxiety and fears hold me back.
4. Tell me your favorite thing about CrossFit Alpha Pack.
If you ask most members of any CrossFit gym what their favorite part is, chances are they’ll say the people—and mean it from the bottom of their hearts. CrossFit Alpha Pack is no different. It’s filled with some of the kindest, most uplifting people I’ve ever met. We’re an eclectic mix, but together, we create one of the most vibrant, soul-nourishing communities you’ll find anywhere.
Sure, you might not always love the workout, but you’ll never leave the gym feeling worse for showing up. The bonds we build here are truly special. We see each other’s struggles and successes every day, and through it all, there’s always someone nearby offering a helping hand or a word of encouragement. That support is what keeps us coming back.
Now, I know the question was about a favorite thing—singular—but I can’t leave out the coaches. Alpha Pack’s coaches are passionate, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in every member’s journey. They do so much more than just lead workouts—they inspire, educate, and empower. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just starting out, the coaches meet you where you are—with compassion, care, and plenty of laughs along the way.
Their dedication goes beyond perfecting form and programming. They take the time to understand your goals, your challenges, and your wins—both inside and outside the gym—and celebrate your progress just as much as you do. Their energy is contagious, their motivation unwavering, and their expertise shines through every single class. It’s clear they love what they do, and it shows in the way they help each of us grow—physically, mentally, and as a community.
6. Do you have any tips for new members or those looking to start?
My biggest tip? Don’t let your fears hold you back. When I first started, I was full of anxiety and really struggled to take that first step. But I’m so thankful I didn’t let those fears stop me from walking into class. I often hear people say things like, “I need to get in shape first” or “I would never survive CrossFit.” But honestly, CrossFit is for everyone—no matter your fitness level, weight, or age.
One of the best things about Alpha Pack is that no one is going to judge you for being new or for trying your best. We’ve all been beginners. Everyone is supportive, encouraging, and genuinely wants to see you succeed—whether you’re lifting heavy or modifying every single movement. Just showing up is something to be proud of.
The coaches are incredible—knowledgeable, patient, and always willing to meet you where you are. They’ll give you modifications that make sense for your body and goals, and they never expect you to do more than you’re ready for. Honestly, there are still days when I modify the modifications—and that’s totally okay.
The most important thing is to just show up. I promise, you won’t regret it.
