September 25-27, 2025, I had the immense honor of being at the American Association of Christian Counselors World Conference in Nashville, TN, and co-presenting with Dr. Christopher Rosik, one of my fellow board members on the Alliance for Therapeutic Choice and Scientific Integrity! We presented on Censoring Christian Sexuality: Insights from the Trenches. In my portion, I outlined the Christian vision of s*xuality and then the major factors why there is opposition to Christian s*xual morality and Christian s*xuality counseling, and why there are so many divisions within the church on the topic. For the sake of time, I had to chop a lot. So, here's a more thorough teaching, diving into philosophy, culture dynamics, and Moral Foundations Theory.

In wrapping up my discussion of the Chiles v. Salazar case at the Supreme Court, challenging Colorado's ban against "conversion therapy" (therapy to explore change in same-s*x attraction and behaviors and gender identity/expression), I want to discuss two amicus briefs submitted in support of Colorado's ban. These briefs were written by ministers and counselors who claim to be "conservative, orthodox Christians" that advocate for the Side B "gay Christian" approach in the Church. They all claim to support the Church's historic understanding of s*x and marriage, and yet they oppose therapy to help individuals better align with God's design and destiny for our s*xuality.

On Oct. 7th, the US Supreme Court heard oral arguments for the Kaley Chiles v. Salazar case involving a Christian counselor challenging Colorado's ban against "conversion therapy" for minors. This is a huge case for those of us who have been fighting for therapeutic choice since the first state ban in California passed in 2012. Let's listen to the audio recording and I'll give my commentary as a therapist who specializes in helping people with unwanted same-s*x attraction.

Let's review this article by the Harvard Civil Rights - Civil Liberties Law Review, titled "Reparative Therapy is Legal for Adults. Here's Why it Shouldn't Be." With the US Supreme Court this week hearing arguments from Kaley Chiles' legal team at Alliance Defending Freedom against Colorado's "conversion therapy" ban for minors, it's important we understand the agenda of these bans. The LGBTQ+ activists want to remove your right to therapy that aligns with your values (the same traditional values that have undergirded civilization for millennia). To violate your rights, they have to push the narrative that all forms of change-exploring therapy are harmful. These bans have started with minors, but their goal is to outlaw it for everyone.
