🌱 PSA for dog parents: That bag of fertilizer in your garage could be toxic to your pup. ☠️

Many common garden fertilizers contain iron, nitrogen, and pesticides that are highly toxic to dogs — even in small amounts. Symptoms of fertilizer poisoning include vomiting, drooling, tremors, and difficulty breathing.

Keep your pet safe:
🚫 Store fertilizers in locked, dog-proof containers
🚫 Keep dogs off fertilized lawns for at least 24–48 hours
✅ Look for pet-safe, organic alternatives
✅ Call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control (888-426-4435) immediately if you suspect ingestion

We had a very special visitor at the hospital this week — Sticks the bearded dragon! 🐉💚

Sticks came in for a check-up wearing the most amazing dragon-wing harness, and we are still not over how adorable (and fierce!) she looked. Her wings were a perfect match for her personality, and she handled her visit like a true legend.

Exotic pets need regular veterinary care, too, and we love getting the chance to see patients like Sticks. Thanks to her family for letting us share this awesome moment!

📸 Warning: cuteness levels may be dangerously high.

We had the pleasure of seeing Norm, an adorable Bernedoodle puppy who completely stole our hearts!

With that fluffy coat, curious puppy eyes, and a tail that just won’t stop wagging, Norm made sure everyone in the hospital got their daily dose of puppy joy! Puppies like Norm remind us why we love what we do: helping pets grow up healthy, happy, and ready for a lifetime of adventures with their families.

Cats are especially vulnerable because:
• They groom constantly (licking residues off fur or paws)
• Their livers metabolize certain toxins differently than dogs
• They’re masters at hiding early signs of illness

⚠️ Prevention Tips for Cat Owners:
✔️ Never bring lilies into a home with cats
✔️ Avoid essential oil diffusers in shared spaces
✔️ Double-check flea/tick products before applying
✔️ Store medications and cleaners securely
✔️ Keep string-like objects out of reach

If you suspect your cat has been exposed to a toxin, contact your veterinarian immediately or call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435.

A little prevention goes a long way in protecting our feline friends. 💜🐾

Many poisonings happen because pets get into things we never expect — a dropped pill, a purse left open, sugar-free gum in a backpack, or food left on the counter.

💡 Prevention Tips:
✔️ Keep medications in closed cabinets
✔️ Store cleaning products securely
✔️ Avoid feeding table scraps (Garlic and onions are toxic to dogs!)
✔️ Double-check ingredients for xylitol (anything listed "Sugar Free" should be triple checked!
✔️ Keep purses and backpacks out of reach

If you suspect your pet has ingested something toxic, contact your veterinarian immediately or call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435 or the Pet Poison Helpline at (855) 764-7661.

Today is World Spay Day

Spaying helps prevent certain cancers and serious infections, like pyometra (a life-threatening uterine infection). It can also reduce unwanted behaviors and prevent unplanned litters.

Every year, millions of pets end up in shelters. Spaying helps reduce overpopulation and gives more animals a chance at a safe, loving home.

If you have questions about spaying your pet, we’re here to help. Let’s work together to keep pets healthy and happy! 💙🐶🐱

🦎✨ Chameleons are some of the coolest reptiles on the planet! From their color-changing abilities to their independently moving eyes and lightning-fast tongues, they’re truly one of a kind.

But they’re also very specialized pets. Chameleons require proper UVB lighting, precise temperature and humidity control, a well-planted enclosure for climbing, and a carefully supplemented insect diet to stay healthy.

Thinking about adding one to your family? Make sure you’re ready to meet their unique care needs — these amazing reptiles thrive with knowledgeable, attentive care! 🌿💚

Apparently, Mother Nature didn’t get the memo that we are emotionally done with winter. We’ve moved on. We’ve mentally planted flowers. We’ve defrosted our optimism. 🌷

But since winter isn’t quite over us, we’ll be staying home following the state and local travel bans, keeping our team safe, and encouraging everyone (two-legged and four-legged) to do the same. Please make sure your pets have a warm place to snuggle, fresh water that isn’t frozen solid, and an excuse to zoomie indoors.

If your pet is experiencing an emergency, please contact your nearest emergency veterinary hospital.

Stay safe, stay warm, and if you need us — we’ll be back as soon as the snow decides it’s done being dramatic. 💙🐶🐱
