The Deadly Trail that Finally Revealed a Phantom Branch of My Family Tree

OK, now I can indeed get in and post. Whatever blocked me before seems to not be a problem now. I will try to make sure to post to this page several times a week to make it stay "fresh". I have completed the second to the last bookcase in my home/office in preparation to finally be able to share the Eastern Dutchess Genealogical Library with others. One more bookcase to build after this one!!! The books are not properly catalogued or arranged. I am hoping to get an intern to help with that! Watch your mailbox for an issue of the Quarterly coming soon. Watch this page for registration info for an ongoing Genealogy Basics class via Zoom.

DNA Webinar
Hello everyone. This is a short message to let you know about an upcoming webinar that I will be hosting with DNA guru, Diahan Southard, which you might be interested in joining.

The free webinar will take place on DNA Day, 29 April at 7pm BST / 2pm ET, and will focus on using DNA and sound genealogical methods to track down the missing persons from your family tree. We will be using The Foundlings, my latest novel featuring Morton Farrier, for examples of how you can improve your skills and DNA knowledge.

For those of you who have yet to read The Foundlings, I am offering a 50%-off code for the unsigned paperback version of the book from my website: www.nathandylangoodwin.com Please use the code DNADAY22 at the checkout

In addition, Diahan is also offering 20% off physical copies of her book, Your DNA Guide (US shipping only) by visiting www.yourdnaguide.com/your-dna-guide-the-book using the same offer code: DNADAY22

Spaces will be limited, so early sign up is recommended by clicking here: https://www.yourdnaguide.com/webinar

I’ll be back with a longer newsletter in due course!

Best wishes,
Nathan

Description:
A ZOOM lecture covering beginning concepts, brought to you by the Dutchess County Genealogical Society and the Beekman Public Library, with a presentation from Valerie LaRobardier, professional genealogist and DCGS President. We will review starting from scratch using family Bibles, birth announcements, wedding invitations, old letters and address books, and interviewing family members. We also cover the importance of documentation, and how to record enough so that you may create proper citations later. We will briefly cover available genealogy forms and organizing material. The second half of the class covers the basic record groups, how to use each, where to find them, and how they overlap. Census, cemetery, military, court, tax and freeman lists, local and family histories, directories and newspapers, vital records—births marriages and deaths are all covered. Though web queries and Internet trees are not a reliable record group, we discuss how they might provide clues leading to proper documentation. At this class we will survey what those registered would like to learn and in what areas they most need assistance.

Contact Sue at the Beekman Library for the Zoom link.
